Hi,
One of my friends had an old powermac G5 dual processor 2.5Ghz. He reckoned it was dead so he gave it to me to play with..
It didnt have a hard drive, but everything else is there, but there are some issues.
When I plug it in i get the standard "click" and the machine will power up...but this is assuming that the screen is not plugged in.. With the screen plugged in, i get the click, but the machine will not power up. I can plug the screen in after powerup, but nothing appears...
The hard drive i installed was a sata drive that i wiped and planned to install ubuntu for powerpc on it..Is there a specific format that i should use? at the moment it's NTFS..
I have tried swapping the RAM, but other than that my idea is that its either power supply or graphics card...
Questions:
- To me it feels like a graphics card failure..does this sound right?
- What format should the hard drive be - or should I try a completely blank drive?
- Would I have more luck with a proper leopard install disc?
- I am running a VGA screen through a DVI adapter at the moment, should i try a DVI screen? or an apple adapter from the ADC socket?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really wanna get this beast working!!
