New to the forum and not a true tech-no guy. running XP pro. when I open IE i get a task bar with http://xadsjt-a.offer. have run spybot and adaware and still there. Coincidentally, windows media player will not run, error with an internal problem.

on another note, I cannot get into windows automatic update. I can go everywhere else, but not update. I get a blank browser with done.

Please do this.
Download 'Hijack This!'. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\HJT\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. Since Temporary folders are emptied now and then (the files are DELETED), it would not be a good idea to have your backups there. Those backups would be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

1. Please go to you're 'My Documents' folder, right-click and select 'New > Folder' then name the folder 'HJT'.

2. Copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

3. Close ALL windows except HJT

4. SCAN with HJT

5. POST the new log in this thread using 'Add Reply'

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO YOUR COMPUTER'S HEALTH

First thing I don't have time to do this log fully so lets start with this .

First, download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.
Check all instances of cdlsp.dll (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane.
Then click Finish.

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.
If you have problems deleting any files in the temp foders reboot into safe mode and try again from there .
to get to safe mode hit the f8 key on reboot

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
You might want to print out or copy & paste to notePad , these instructions as you will need to close this browser window to fix with hijackthis !

Now reboot into safe mode and delete the following files and folders if found .

C:\documents and settings\al davis\local settings\temp\ynsrQQQ.exe,,,,,,,empty the temp folder to remove this .

C:\documents and settings\al davis\local settings\temp\G8nIeifv.exe,,,,,,this will be gone when you clear the temp folder .

C:\WINDOWS\system32\??plorer.exe......delete file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\zolptjg.exe,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,delete file

to delete the above files and folder you will need to do the following

Show hidden files & folders

"Fix Checked"...Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files

OK, while in hijack this I did a scan and checked the 10 items listed, clicked fix, then rebooted into safe mode. delieted the temp files but did not see the ones listed. went back to HJT and found windows....zolptig I could not find ??plorer.exe and checked, clicked fix and rebooted. Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content.

Do a virus scan here.
If you get report of files that can’t be cleaned / deleted please write down the filenames and locations and post that in your reply.

Ok, I am no longer getting the virus pop up, here is the latest log, I ran the scan and found Troj BISPY.B and Troj Small.AA. I am having problems with WMP and have tried loading it again, unk if related to my problems. Also using Yahoo mail and cannot delete move or change any mail. I can read and send only. Should I move these problems to a different forum?? Here is my HJT. Thank you for your help, I am learning as I go...

the above means you are using msconfig to stop something from starting up ,if its just a windows program you don't want running its ok but if not you should set msconfig to normal startup and post a new hijack log .

also i usually just to be safe , tell people to fix the 016 as the good ones will download the next visit to the site .please run hijack and fix

What version of WMP are us using ,did you try to go to windows updates to update it if its older than v10

I have tried to install WMP 10 and still get the internal application error...

The only thing I see in your log that you may wish to consider has to do with CTHELPER.EXE; quote from sysinfo:

CTHELPER is a background task that is a plug-in manager for Creative drivers. The theory is that 3rd party manufacturers can use the CTHELPER plug-in interface to produce drivers, add-on features, and fixes that will integrate with a tighter fit with Creative’s sound drivers and utilities. Given its purpose CTHELPER would normally be classified as a "leave alone" background task. It also allows Creative speaker setup to be synchronized with Windows Control Panel speaker setting. Without it running that check box in Creative speaker setting is not functional (settings are not in sync). Unfortunately there are often problems with CTHELPER, most notably that it can use 100% of CPU time so it's best left disabled unless you need it.
