I'm running Win XP SP2. On a regular basis the system runs at 100%. I've been able to identify a Process called Sect Up Free.EXE which often runs in multiple copies. Each of them deviding 100% of the CPU. I'm able to end the processes and then everything goes back to normal until the next time.

Now thanks to HijackThis, I've been able to make some progress. The famous program is installed in a Folder that is marked as hidden. It is installed under every windows ID on my system. There are 5 ids on the system, for the family. Here's what I found:

Under Documents and Settings\ID\Application Data\Eggswavebin\
The list id different for every id but all located at the same place. Under my id which has Administrator privileges, I found the following modules:
alviyprj.exe, Bagsstop.exe, Build exit bows global.exe, cahxtjqr.exe, cojxrmfe.exe, qkuzeonj.exe, Sect Up Free.exe, xuqhevic.exe.

Under the other ids, I found the following: Bagsstop.exe, lrtaxvyb.exe (or grzlnylj.exe or wtfsaezx.exe) and Sect Up Free.exe.

I've installed the MS AntiSpyware which detected 30 threats the first time I ran it. But it did not kill this one.

Any suggestions as to how I get rid of this nuisance and prevent it from coming back.

THANK YOU. Below is the HijackThis.log which was very useful:

Nice work up-front on your part; you've given a lot to go on!

From the looks of your log and the other info you posted, you have a few "unwanted guests" that we need to get rid of, and HijackThis isn't going to be able to do it all. Although they might seem like a bit of work, please follow the instructions below carefully to (hopefully) clean some of the infections out of your system:

A) Run a full anti-virus scan, making sure that your anti-virus program is using the most current virus definition updates.

B) Download and run Ad Aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy (download links are in my sig below).

Follow these directions for configuring Ad Aware (directions courtesy of our member "crunchie"):

1. Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

* Run SpyBot.

When you first run SpyBot, it will walk you through a Wizard which will perform a few critical functions (making a registry backup, getting the latest updates, etc.).

1. Perform all of the Wizard's tasks.
2. Run the program. Once it completes, have it fix everything it finds.
3. Reboot.

C) Boot into Safe Mode (do this by hitting the F8 key as the computer is booting) and:

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files".

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete everything inside the following folders (don't delete the folders themselves though):

1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

(If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed.)

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

- Reboot normally.

D) Run HijackThis again and post a fresh log.
* Note- this entry in your last HijackThis log indicated that you had at least 1 instance of Internet Explorer running/open when you ran HJT:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

HJT cannotfully perform all of its fixes if any instances of your web browser are open; make sure Interenet Exploder is entirely closed before running HJT again.

I've performed all the steps described in your note. Unfortunately i wasnot as successful as it could have been.

I ran:
- The anti-virus scan with the latest definitions;
- AdAware SE and forced it to everything it could which it was not doing on its own;
- Ran SpyBot which could not finish the jab and requested to run on startup which I did about 5 times as each time it could not remove everything. I stopped doing it as it was not going to be successful
- I booted the system in Safe Mode and deleted everything required
- In addition:
- I deleted manually the famous Eggswavebin folders everywhere, since none of the software did anything with it. I'll see over the next few days if it re-installs itself.
- I used MS AntiSpyware to reset my search bar again as that was still broken
- I'm still getting a request to change the search bar to some garbage address and I keep blocking it with MS AntiSpyware.

For some reason, there is still some garbage in my system. The people who this stuff are really stupid.

I'm submitting you the latest HijackThis log. If you have any other suggestions, I'll try them. Thanks for your help.

Here's the log, I forgot to include it in my last reply:
