frmwrk32,exe removal - help please

Hi,

Windows XP Pro, Dell XPS 410, IE7.

Following another thread with this problem I downloaded and ran MBA-M and then HJT. Both logs attached.

Symtoms still exisiting: desktop theme is corrupted (image changed to ahtn) and embedded weblinks get hijacked to other sites. I've deleted all temporary Internet files, forms, password etc (left the cookies alone).

One other (cooincidental???) happening is that one of my RAID drives failed on reboot after HJT.

What next please?

Adding more info:

On boot up I see the dead RAID drive, then get to password screen. At this point I see my normal desktop waiting until the RAID configuration is checked, that fails with a warning and my screen background disappears and only plain blue with my icons is visible.

On Shutdown, my screen background returns until m/c shuts off.

Is it possible that this psuedo trojan has affected my hard drive and is causing the RAID failure or do I need to go out and buy a new disk?

OK. removed all Temporary Internet files, browsing history, cookies etc.
Ran HJT and checked off suggested items - two were not there, both 01 - hosts entries.
Fix Checked, exit & reboot.
Got 'regedit' errors on restart (access denied).
Also got random starts of IE7 and various webpages popping up
Updated and ran MBA-M, removed all items.
Rebooted, ran HJT again here are the logs:

You are not following instructions. You didn't FIX anything with MBA-M,'
Please update the program again and follow these instructions:
# If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
# Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
# When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
# Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
# When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

REBOOT the Computer

Run a new HJT scan and save the log. Post back first with the MBA-M log and then the HJT log.

Download ComboFix, You will get a prompt asking if you want to run or save the file. Choose SAVE and save it to the desk top. DO NOT RUN it YET

* Close all open Windows including this one.
* Close or disable all running Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall programs as they may interfere with the proper running of ComboFix.

Once these two steps have been completed, double-click on the ComboFix icon found on your desktop. Please note, that once you start ComboFix you should not click anywhere on the ComboFix window as it can cause the program to stall. In fact, when ComboFix is running, do not touch your computer at all and just take a break as it may take a while for it to complete.
Windows may issue a prompt because ComboFix does not have a digital signature. This is perfectly normal and safe and you can click on the Run button to continue.
ComboFix is now preparing to run and when it has finished you will see the Disclaimer screen you should press the number 1 key and then press the enter key to continue.
ComboFix will create a System Restore point so that if any problems occur while using the program you can restore back to your previous configuration. When ComboFix has finished creating the restore point, it will then backup your Windows Registry.
Once the Windows Registry has finished being backed up, ComboFix will disconnect your computer from the Internet. Therefore, do not be surprised or concerned if you receive any warnings stating that you are no longer on the Internet as your connection will be completely restored at a later stage in the program.

ComboFix will now start scanning your computer for known infections. This procedure can take some time, so please be patient.
While the program is scanning your computer, it will change your clock format, so do not be concerned when you see this happen. When ComboFix is finished it will restore your clock settings to what they were previously. You will also see the text in the ComboFix window being updated as it goes through the various stages of its scan.

When ComboFix has finished running, you will see a screen stating that it is preparing the log report
This can take a while, so please be patient. If you see your Windows desktop disappear, do not worry. This is normal and ComboFix will restore your desktop before it is finished. Eventually you will see a new screen that states the program is almost finished and telling you the programs log file, or report, will be located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
When ComboFix has finished, it will automatically close the program and change your clock back to its original format. It will then display the log file automatically
You should now post this log here when all is complete.

BTW Trend keeps finding the virus in the SYSTEM VOLUME\Restore files

We will take care of that shortly. It isn't a problem.

How is the computer working now? Other than the finding by Trend are you having other problems?

Thanks for your help and as a result I only had to restore the desktop theme plus login to all my regular websites. Also it no longer recognizes (or takes any action) when I plug in my digital camera. It used to pop up a window and ask what I wanted to do with the pictures.

Other than that, I haven't seen any other issues and it seems to be working OK. Even the RAID drives are behaving normally again.

Combofix changes the autorun settings, so you just need to change it back :).

Do as crunchie said and re-enable your start up for your digital camera if you want it to auto run. It can be run manually of course but no problem if you prefer it autorun.

Now run HJT again and put a check mark next to this one;

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

Then click the Fix Checked button and Exit HJT.

Your Java is way out of date so you do need to update that.
First go HERE and download the offline install and save it to the desktop.
Once that has downloaded close ALL browsers and go to Add/Remove and UNINSTALL ALL old versions of Java you find there.
Once the uninstalls are finished then double click that new java install icon on the desktop to install the newest version. Once the new install is complete go back to the download page and on the right side you will see Verify Now. Click that to go to the verification page to verify that the install was successful.

You should remove HiJackThis, you don't need it any more.

You also should uninstall combofix. It basically is a "one time" fix. If a person is told to use it again some other time then a new copy would be needed.

* Click START then RUN
* Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. The space between the combofix and the /u, it must be there.
When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

You also need to set a new, clean Restore point, this will remove that item being found by your Trend Anti-virus and give you a new and clean restore point.

To do this Right Click My computer.
Choose Properties
When System Properties opens choose the System Restore Tab.
Place a check mark in Shut down System Restore.
You will probably get a message telling you it will be shut down, click ok or yes.
Allow it to shut down.
Wait a moment. Then go back in and take that check mark Out so that System Restore will turn back on.
