Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

 • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
 • Physically disconnect from the internet.
 • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
 • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
 • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
 • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Note, a warning message came up when I ran HijackThis saying that for some reason my system denied access to the host file. It said more, but i was unable to copy it.

Thanks

The warning for host file is ok.

Can you go to C:\qoobox and locate all text files for combofix and post them here as it appears from the log that it has been run more than once.

Are the re-directs still occurring?

error: 31

And it is still redirecting.

Any reason it ran twice?

Download the HostsXpert.
Run it and press "Restore M$ Hosts File" and press "OK". Exit Program.
Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it.

Reboot and see if it still re-directs.

I did as instructed, still being redirected. When I rebooted, windows defender came up and said that "Trojan:win/32/Alureon.ct" was detected. I removed it.

The reason it ran twice was because a few days ago I ran it in an amateurish attempt at fixing this myself.

I also tried to run anti-spyware and nothing came up

I also tried to run anti-spyware and nothing came up

I'm curious about this one:

Please navigate to the file in bold below and upload it here for analysis and let us know what you find --->
c:\windows\system32\windrv.sys

I'd also suggest a GMER run, if crunchie concurs...

PP:)

EDIT: You can get deldomains here without registering:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner and post the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

 • You will need to use Internet Explorer to complete this scan.
 • You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
 • Be sure the option to Remove found threats is Un-checked at this time (we may have it clean what it finds at a later time), and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
 • When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

NOTE: If you are unable to complete the ESET scan, please try another from the list below:

Kaspersky Online Scanner Panda Active Scan Trend Micro HouseCall F-Secure Online Virus Scanner

"Trojan:win/32/Alureon.ct" was detected.

This is a DNS changer / cache poisoner in the TDSS family. You guys might want to have a look in that direction....

Cheers :)
PP

I didn't see your 1st post PP. I am not sure thar deletedomains works with Vista. Thats why I deleted my post.
MBA-M could also be updated and run to see if it picks anything up.

Gmer can be run too :).

ESET found nothing. The log:
ESETSmartInstaller@High as CAB hook log:
OnlineScanner.ocx - registred OK

Also, I dont know if this is of any consequence, but running IE starts an internet security warning to appear saying a website wants to open web content using this program on your computer. Then has a button for "allow" and "Don't allow" There are two publishers that alternated: either AOL LLC or Adobe Flash player...these continually pop up even after saying "don't allow"....might not be relevant, but I thought i'd mention it...don't know how long this has been happening, since I rarely use IE.

Not the full ESET log, but if nothing found, it doesn't matter.
Have you run Gmer as PP suggested?

Not sure about those warnings. Programs appear to be legit.

Running it now...that was all that was in the log file for ESET...is there a log I need to post, or might this just clear up the redirect?

IS there anything to post with Gmer or does it just get rid of the files?

Running it now...that was all that was in the log file for ESET...is there a log I need to post, or might this just clear up the redirect?

I think your DNS Cache has been poisoned.

If you click Start > Run > type ipconfig /flushdns ENTER
See if that helps. That is merely a workaround that doesn't address the actual malware (which may or may not remain).

Instructions for running GMER:
Please download GMER Rootkit Scanner:
http://www.gmer.net/download.php

-- DoubleClick the .exe file and, if asked, allow the gmer.sys driver to load.
-- If you receive a warning about Rootkit Activity and GMER asks if you want to run a scan, Click NO

-- Make sure the Rootkit/Malware Tab is selected (Top Left of GMER GUI)
Along the Right Side of the GMER GUI there will be a number of checked boxes. Please Uncheck the following:
- Sections
- Drives or Partitions other than your Systemdrive (usually C:\)
- Show All (be sure this one remains Unchecked)

-- Then, click the Scan Button
Allow the scan as long as it needs and then save the log to where you can easily find it and post it for me.

***Disconnect from the internet and do not run any other programs while GMER is scanning. Temporarily disable any real-time anti-spyware or anti-virus protection so they do not interfere with the running of GMER.
DO NOT take any action for any found items until crunchie or I can have a look.

PP:)

@ crunchie - I think DelDomains does work with Vista.

@ crunchie - I think DelDomains does work with Vista.

No worries. Good to know :)

here is the GMER scan log...I didn't relize it would take so long...I had disabled Norton but it apparenlty turns itself back on...it did it's normal scan this morning and found some things that it deleted. I will put that at the bottom.

Download DDS from the following location:

DDS Tool

Save dds.scr to the desktop

Disable any script-blocking programs and then double-click on the DDS.scr icon to start the program. If you did not disable a script-blocker that may be part of your antimalware program, you may receive a warning from your antimalware product asking if you would like DDS.scr to run. Please allow it to do so.

Once you double-click the icon a Windows security warning may also appear asking if you are sure you would like to run the program. Click on the Run button to start DDS. If no warning appeared, then you should just continue.

DDS will now display a small black window providing information as to what DDS is doing on your computer.

DDS will now start scanning your computer and compiling a variety of information about what programs are starting on your computer, what files have been recently created, and the general configuration of your computer. When DDS has finished scanning, all of this information will be compiled and be displayed in two Notepad windows named dds.txt and attach.txt.

You will then be shown a small box giving instructions as to what you should do with these files. Feel free to close this message box by pressing the OK button.

We now need to save the two log files that were created. First click on the DDS.txt window and click on the File menu and then select Save As... menu option.

Save DDS.txt to the desktop. Now click on the Attach.txt Notepad window and save that to the desktop also.

Copy the contents of the DDS.txt log and paste it into your reply here.
Attach the attach.txt log with your reply using Reply to Thread button, then the Manage Attachments button.

Please go to Jotti's or to virustotal and have this file scanned. Post the results back here.

c:\windows\system32\windrv.sys

=================

1. Please open Notepad

 • Click Start , then Run
 • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

File::
c:\windows\sed.exe
c:\windows\PEV.exe

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Physically disconnect from the internet.

5. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

6. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

7. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next replyafter you re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix:

 • Combofix.txt
 • A new HijackThis log.

Please take note:

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Ran Jotti and nothing was found.
