Hi can anyone solve a very annoying problem for me I have brought my first laptop and when I using it at random the computer opens a blank internet page (nothing but white) it happens even when I'm not using the internet the only way to get rid of it is to press ctrl, alt delete and go into task manager and select the one that says "blank internet explorer page" and close it. It happens everytime I'm on the computer but only once per session once turned off it stays off until the computer is started next time. I know several other people who all say that their laptop also does this is there anyway to stop it ???????????? I hope there is a braniac out there who can help.

many thanks

Brief summary for : a single empty Internet Explorer window that opens once per login is usually not a random Windows bug but a program, scheduled task, or add-on launching iexplore.exe at logon. That process is the right one to kill, but tracking the origin is the goal — otherwise the symptom will return each session.

Practical diagnostic order (quick, safe, reversible):

If earlier checks fail, capture what spawns iexplore.exe:

  • Run Process Monitor and filter for Process Create and iexplore.exe to see the parent process and command line at the moment IE starts (Process Monitor - Sysinternals) https://learn.microsoft.com/sysinternals/downloads/procmon. That log usually points straight to the offending program or script.

Also scan for unwanted software with an up-to-date anti-malware tool (for example, Malwarebytes) and consider a clean boot to isolate non-Microsoft services. As hinted, third-party utilities that integrate with the browser are common causes; use the steps above to identify and remove the specific offender rather than repeatedly killing the process.

Is Magentic wallpaper or screensaver or Incredimail installed?

If so uninstall it and that should take care of it.
