Hi all

Im desperatley after a bit of help. Unfortunatley Im not the most technically able person when it comes to computers however, I, like a number of other people posting threads are having problems with some form of spyware. Basically Im getting a message in the bottom left corner re a secuity alert.

When I log onto the internet, instead of the normal web page (wanadoo) instead I get www.Securitycaution.com . This website states that I have spyware and there is also a second pop up stating the following:
Warning!
Your PC is infected with Spyware
Browser Version 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
Spyware details; "stealthSWs114.h!dll!" ver.4.442as18a.

It then goes on to say to click ok to go to official antispyware website. This links to malwarewipe. I have not paid the cash for this programme as Im concerned that this is part of the spyware.

So far I have tried mircosoft spyware and also spybot which cleared some items but there are still problems. Certain programmes are not working correctly as well as the message in the left hand corner and the opening website. In particular Microsoft money seems to have gone as when I click on the icon it tries to install the programme.

As I stated earlier Im not great at the technical side, but I have used the hijack this and created a file.

Hi Darren1979,

You have a variant of the Smitfraud/SpySheriff/AntiVirusGold/SpyAxe/etc. family of infections, which require a special proceedure to remove:

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

Please download smitRem.zip and save it to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to its own folder on the desktop.

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Security Suite:

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
From the main Ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
Exit Ewido. DO NOT run a scan yet.

If you do not already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 installed, follow these download and setup instructions. Also check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Again, do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Next, run Ad-aware and perform a full scan. Remove everything found.

Now open Ewido Security Suite

Click on Scanner
Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives. You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one. If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Start -> Control Panel, click Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web -> Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Restart your computer in normal mode.

Run Panda's online virus scan and perform a full system scan. Make sure the Autoclean box is checked!

Finally, restart your computer once more, and please post a new HijackThis log as well as the log from the Ewido scan and the log from the smitRem tool, which will be located at C:\smitfiles.txt.
Let us know if any problems persist.

There are two "leftovers" in your HijackThis log that need to go, but everything else looks good. :)

Run HijackThis and have it fix:

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O18 - Filter: text/plain - (no CLSID) - (no file)

After doing the above, reboot, run another HJT scan, and make sure those entries aren't present in the new log.

Further to my previous post I have now managed to advance this a bit further thanks to advice others have received on here with similar problems. I have used a number of other spyware remover programmes, in particular ad-aware SE spy subcontract pro 3.0 with CW shredder.

These have removed further items, however each time I run them something new appears.

I have run the hijack log again which is below. Any help is much appreciated. Im running out of ideas. Thanks

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. I have had problems getting ewido to work with it saying that it is unable to install however I have now added the Norton Internet security package to my computer. The main problems now seem to have been corrected. Please can you have a look at the attached hijack log and smitfile. Are you able to confirm that all of the remainder of the spyware has gone?
