Greetings,
I have a fairly new HP Pavillion (WIndows XP Home Edition SP 1) with Norton Internet Security installed. The Norton was turned off for a brief while (networking problem - the "network" is 2 machines connected via crossover). I'm getting all kinds of Norton windows to permit/block access for a bunch of programs (dpi.exe, IEhost.exe, etc.) whenever I run IE. Am attaching the Hijack This log. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately not... :(

Ok, first- download and run CWShredder (from the author of HJT).

Then run HJT again and have it fix the following:

- Reboot into safe mode (hit the F8 key just as Windows first starts).

- Open Windows Explorer. In the Tools->Folder Options->View tab, select "show hidden files and folders". Deselect the "hide protected operating system files" option.

- Find and delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\Clk7ubTz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\uptodate.exe
msuacct.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dp-him.exe
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates

- Go to your C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp folder and delete all of the contents of that folder (but not the folder itself)

- In your Internet Options control panel:
delete all cookies
Empty all Temporary Internet files (including "offline content")

- Empty your Recycle Bin

- Reboot normally

- Run HJT again and post the resulting log

My fingers are crossed so tight it's cutting off circulation. This is all quite an education (along with frustration).

Hope you don't mind caperjack :) .

Just a bit of housekeeping now. Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [0fp.exe] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\0fp.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2P6WFAX43ZHE7C] C:\WINDOWS\System32\PgpXq.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp folder contents

C:\WINDOWS\System32\PgpXq.exe

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

Just noticed you have an archaic version of hijackthis. Please download the latest version (1.98) before rescanning.
