i downloaded a file off of (blankety blank) and double clicked. something happened and now whenever i use mozilla or ie i get a weird search page - powered by msn. i can't use any search engine because that's where i keep getting directed. it also installed a 'find whatever now' toolbar. i went around the web and found out how to manually uninstall the toolbar. it's gone but i still can't use any search engines - and my msn messenger will not log on.

i have 4 other computers on my network and they're all fine.

can someone please help me i have tried adaware, spybot sd, and spysweeper. they all found different things but i'm still hijacked to that msn page.

here is my hijack this log:

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.1. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. Remove 1.97 from the folder it is in & replace it with 1.98.1.

Cannot see anything there that can cause it. Have you removed anything from the log already? If so, reboot, rescan with the new version of HJT & post that log.

Could this be a time to use this ,
.....................
Download this .reg file to a temporary place, like Desktop. http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/IEFIX.reg
Double-click on it and answer Yes.
It will restore all the default Search settings for IE.

It could well be.

woops - here is the new logfile with updated hijack this.

but here are some other wierd things - today i rebooted my machine (once again) and it's seems to work now. this happens intermittantly - it will work it won't work. i thought it may be an issue with my hardware but the 'hijack' only seems to effect certain ports - because i will not be able to go to search engines - and my msn messenger will not connect - but i can still get streaming music from itunes radio station. i checked to see if somehow xp firewall was turned on but it wasn't. i have never seen anything like this before. i will try the .reg solution when it starts to act posessed again - which (due to a trend) wil happen in the next hour. mozilla is effected as well as ie so will the .reg solution work? it seems to be a DNS hijack of some sort but the HOSTS file is fine.
