Desktop folder became (hidden?).

My P-3 500mHz Gateway running Win98SE
has lost its "Desktop" line in the list of folders
under C:\Windows\ - how may I restore it?
In DOS mode the C:\Windows\Desktop\
appears with its files intact but looking by using
Windows Explorer the "Desktop" line does not
show up.
I first noticed the folder-name's absence
after running PC Pitstop's "Optimize" followed
by Norton Windows Doctor followed by
a standard Win98 hard drive defrag.
The "Desktop" header at the top of the
Explorer's drive "C" window is intact as
are the files therein (which match those of
the C:\Windows|Desktop\ except for a
couple of folders).
This situation is similar to Sazar's Win98SE
problem of Sept 28, 2004 except that my hard
drive has not lost any files. Hal Treacy.
