Word 2003 Grammar Options greyed-out

I run Office 2003 successfully through CrossOver Mac on my Mac Mini but have encountered a problem when wishing to use Grammar checking with Word. If I open Word with a blank page then I can access and set-up all Grammar and Spelling options but when I open a document I wish to check I am denied access to the Grammar options (i.e. they are greyed-out) and running a check doesn't even seem to utilise the spellcheck - no red or blue wavy lines appear in the document.Just to make sure I tried the same on Word run through Bootcamp on Windows XP and the same thing happened so its not a fault created by CrossOver Mac.
