windows xp shut off problems

I'm having trouble getting the computer to shut off completely. I log off and then hit shut computer off and get the screen that says i can safely shut down computer instead of it shutting down by itself. I can't even get it to shut off by pushing the shut off button and holing it down. I need help jeff

Hello and welcome to Daniweb ,right click on the desktop go to properties,screen saver,then power in there you will find a place to check of to use power options ,this will fix your shutdown

i have already went to the screensaver and told the computer to power down when i hit turn computer off and still no way to shut down not even with on button jeff
