Typing this from my droid x.
I have 12 mbs cable internet.
direct line from modem to computer.
works on laptop and xbox just not my computer.
internet works at friends house via direct line
running windows 7
reformatted an hour ago as i figured maybe some setting was messed up but it still wont work
i only have internet explorer and win7 with no updates since i can't connect

A friend of mine had a similar issue running a direct line from their ISP modem to their computer. The ISP modem locked to the MAC address of the first machine that connected to it.
Try pulling the power from the ISP modem, wait 5 minutes and then plug it back in
