I'm not an Opera fan and I really don't want to have to install it. Can someone else please confirm this bug before I'm forced to see for myself?

Create a portfolio of small mini-projects that can serve a dual role of showing off your skills and also gain some publicity for your "virtual resume". Have each project be something that would attract a widespread audience while at the same time showcasing a different major skill.

Hi and welcome to Daniweb! :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

OK, member search functionality has been built into the main search now. (Moderators still have access to the more feature rich version)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

But it just happens all the time, just by viewing a thread, right? You don't need to actually be replying to the thread to notice the problem?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Is it still happening for you?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry, not seeing what your issue is. Please provide a full URL to the page having the issue along with steps to reproduce it.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Test reply using Firefox 24

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Please link me to the thread in question. Does this happen with all threads? What web browser and operating system are you using?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Firstly, sorry for the downtime over the past 45 minutes. Damn Softlayer :)

Secondly, unlike in the past when sponsors got the benefit of no advertising and access to a behind-the-scenes forum while everyone else didn't (nowadays, everyone gets no advertising), pretty much the single most important benefit that you get (at least according to our Donations page) is the warm and fuzzy feeling of seeing a Sponsor badge next to your posts.

That's the benefit of being an active sponsor. You only need to sponsor as little as $1 a month to get that reward. But ... we're already giving everyone the ability to disable advertising and everything else. The recognition and knowledge you get knowing that everyone knows how generous you are is basically the primary benefit of being an active sponsor.

Again with the 404 errors?!!!!?? GAH traffic is down yet another 20% this morning :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

AD, I think you're misunderstanding ;) Once I code it up you'll see what I mean.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No, i understand, but what happens when you do a search is there needs to be a search results page that shows all the possible [partial-word] matches. The problem is that results page currently isn't conducive to non-moderators.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Currently this is a moderator-only feature, although it really needs to be retooled to work for everybody. (The search results are currently moderator-centric with information about the member's infractions, etc.) Perhaps I'll work on doing that tomorrow.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I've just informed James.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Gah, I'm sorry about that :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Elliptical, exercise bike, and treadmill. I try to do 30-45 minutes at least three times a week. It's not a lot, but for someone who works at home on the computer, it's just about the only exercise I get.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well, there's overhead involved simply because DOM mainipulation can be expensive, but that's pretty much what we do @ http://www.daniweb.com/stats/online

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Awww, gah. Sorry about that. Darn, I feel bad. Was it salvagable at all when you hit the back button? I always copy my post to the clipboard before hitting submit in case something like that happens. Learned my lesson one too many times over the years!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

For web servers, its more common to have the LB check to see if it can get a 200 back on a specific test page to determine if the web server is able to service requests.

We already do this.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yeah, one of our web servers is down, and the load balancer is still sending traffic to it.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Do you mean something like what we use at Thumbshots.org??

The links are not live though. They are snapshots that get updated on an infrequent / semi-frequent basis.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

That's LinkedIn's widget for ya. Looks like you can't click it. You have to just hover over it and wait for the popup to appear, and then click the name in the popup.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yes, that's what the Homepage URL is intended for.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We used to have one under the Community Center (called Professionals' Lounge, as opposed to the Geeks' Lounge) but very few people ever posted in it, and so eventually it was rolled up into the Community Center.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

So you don't think there's anything there that's useful but meanwhile half the links there are useful? I see how it is ;) hehe

You'd sleep better if you turned off the tv.

I absolutely need to watch a bit of tv in bed before being able to fall asleep. It helps me wind down after a long day and just relax. I wouldn't want to bother wearing 3D glasses laying in bed though just before falling asleep.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

AFAIK there are no broadcast 3d programs -- only 3d movies, and you'd have to buy a 3d movie player to watch them.

I have Time Warner Cable and they have 3D programs on demand. Some are free and some are pay-per-view.

Also, I have a Samsung 3D TV, and it has an option to convert any standard 2D show (on cable tv, dvd, etc) to 3D. It does a pretty good job of figuring out depth in real time and presenting regular ole tv in 3D. Of course, it's a bit of a gimmick, so I rarely do so because of the time, energy and effort involved in getting out the 3D glasses and going through the tv's menu to enable the darn thing. Too much work to just be a couch potato in front of the tv ;)

Fingerprint sensor is going to make it hard for people to spy on their significant others ;) Or for parents to see what their tweens/teens are up to.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The same with 3d blu-ray movies, I won't buy them.

3D blu-rays require you to have a 3D TV, so it's a good thing you don't buy them, since they won't work :)

I used to love going to the 3D IMAX movies at the Lowes theater in Manhattan back in the 90s. The movies (I assume due to production costs) were always about 40 minutes long, and were designed to demo the 3D (i.e. no matter what the plot was, they always managed to get a roller coaster scene in there.)

Back at the time, I bought a 3D converter kit off of Amazon (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1781700864/tt0159423?ref_=tt_pv_md_5) and it looked absolutely astounding on my large Sony CRT monitor. I recall being very impressed at the time, although that was 15 years ago.

The 3D TV and movies that they have nowadays are a different technology, and it isn't nearly as amazing. At least for me, the old 3D movies I used to go to back in the 90s always felt like being on a ride at an amusement park the entire time, and everything was constantly in your face and all around you. It really felt like you were totally immersed in the scene.

Nowadays, 3D just seems to mean that there are different layers on the screen and there's a concept of depth.

When I go to the movies, if the picture is available in 2D or 3D, I always opt for 3D (because, even though 3D isn't what it used to be, it's still better than 2D for me), and I have no issues with headaches or anything. I have a Samsung 3D tv at home, and I do tend …

Sorry, some changes that James made accidentally got pushed to production before I had a chance to review them. Unfortunately, they caused the inability to do anything related to voting. I've reverted the changes and I'll look into them later today/tomorrow.

Aarti, what Peter is saying is that suppose people have a discussion on the site. Then, if one of those people can go back and edit or delete their side of the conversation, the entire thing won't make sense or will lose its original meaning. That isn't fair to everyone else who participated in the conversation.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

This seems like it's most likely releated to your poor internet connection.

So it's like php's var_export() or serialize() then I guess.

Our server issues only lasted 2 days and were fixed last week. We had a problem with one of our web servers. Requests are served round robin (meaning that the same page can work fine one moment and time out when trying to access it a few minutes later). Of course, we wouldn't be able to log individual requests because there are millions a day and we simply don't have anywhere remotely close to the amount of resources (cpu power, hard drive space, etc) to log so many gigabytes worth of log files daily.

I just stumbled into this thread and, not being a python programmer, found it quite aumusing ... pickle, unpickle, huh? Can you cucumber.dump() too?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Both work perfectly fine for me, and I can't reproduce this at all. Not only that, but no code changes to anything related to them.

Are you planing to address the issue of formatted code that is oveflowing its container?

Fixed. Word wrapping now breaks mid-word if the word is longer than the allowable characters on a single line.

Welcome back!! :) Play around with it a bit and then let me know what you think :) It came as a bit of a change as far as skinning is concerned, but everything works exactly the same under the hood this time around.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

we had an issue earlier in the week with one of the web servers not working. I wonder if you're randomly hitting a bad web server. I'll reach out to James in a little bit.
