OK getting blud's attention.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi,

I guess I'm confused by the questions you are asking specifically. The more time you spend on DaniWeb, the more familiar you will be with all of our features. I'm not sure what happened with regards to the email though :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry :embarassed:

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

If you could email it to me at cscgal@daniwebmail.com that would be great. I think Apache glitched.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I know we're having a lot of problems with the ads as of yesterday. Working to resolve.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Oh goodness. I'm so sorry. I wasn't aware this got screwed up. I worked on the code yesterday and didn't realize this was affected. Will take a looksie in just a few.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Cool. Just marked this thread as solved.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

A new flash ad has gone up which should have fixed the problem.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I was able to contact the advertiser and we are temporarily just showing the image ad until they can fix the Flash one.

Woohoo! I'm so excited. Eyal just called me up from California to tell me he is on his way to Cupertino to go to dinner with Woz and his wife :)

Funnily enough, I happen to have a Woz signature-edition Apple IIGS from back in the day (circa early 1980s). Eyal missed on the boat on the sig edition but also happened to have had an Apple IIGS. He actually flew it out to Cali with him and is taking it to dinner so that Woz can hand-sign it!!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The reason this isn't done is because all of the JavaScript required to load the full editor is very heavy, and would significantly slow page loading times whenever browsing threads.

However, I believe this idea is currently being circulated in the vBulletin forums for an upcoming version.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's not that they are falling off the todo list. It is that I am still contemplating what I want to do. I haven't made up my mind yet.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Need we have any doubt it will be though? ;)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Super excited for this!!

My robots.txt file looks like this:

Sitemap: http://www.daniweb.com/sitemap.xml

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: ...........

It sits in the root directory. I think that Allow is explicit.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

ursimrankhanna, you have it backwards.

SEO = Search Engine Optimization techniques such as on-page optimization (meta tags, keyword density, etc) and off-page optimization (getting backlinks)
PPC = Pay Per Click is purchasing clicks from Google AdWords or other search engines
SEM = Search Engine Marketing is a broad term to describe everything you can do to get traffic from the search engines. It includes SEO and PPC.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

SEM is a broader term that describes doing both SEO and PPC

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

"Java Web Development" seems very redundant to me given it is in the Web Development category.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

So far two votes for a single Databases forum. What say everyone else?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

What error does it give?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well even if it's a vBulletin issue, there maybe a workaround or a fix. It's all open source. I will investigate.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Incidentally ... wonder if this works ...

Shrek Video Game

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Let me investigate whether or not this is a vBulletin issue or something specific to DaniWeb... Hmm. Gimme a lil time to fix this one.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I meant for either the Database Design or Legacy and Other Languages forums to be a bit of a catch-all. How often are there new threads related to these other SQLs?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't think it's a matter of a greater percentage of people screwing up as much as it is just more posts being made in general. However, I can definitely understand the frustration.

I went ahead and made it so that members must have either a reputation of at least 15(meaning they received at least one positive rep from a non-newbie) *OR* they have at least 5 posts and have also been a member for at least 5 days before they can contribute code snippets. This is also the threshold to tag threads with never-before-used tags (as opposed to ones already in the system).

Not sure what you mean? Can you give an example??

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Social media (twitter, facebook, etc). Swapping links with other sites. Posting in forums about your niche with a link to your site in your signature. Attending Meetups about your niche -- get involved in the community and earn a name for yourself both online and off ...

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thank you for the heads up.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

FeedBurner provides all of the extra statistics and also gives you the option to use AdSense for Feeds to make money through your RSS feeds. Unless they are well syndicated, it probably won't be a whole lot of revenue. But it's an option.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

haha we posted at the same time

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

When you flag a bad post, a thread is created in a hidden queue of submitted reports, where moderators act on each submission as a ticketing system of sorts. All you're really doing is calling a moderator's attention to the post. :)

If you want, flag the post again with an updated note to the moderator, and the updated note will get added to the same ticket.

Yup. Will check it out tomorrow.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We're having issues. :) They're being worked on.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Will investigate

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Your avatar appears next to all your posts, but it's rather small. Your member profile is a larger picture that appears when you click on your avatar in your member profile.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It looks as if you have a profile picture uploaded but not an avatar.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi Dani,

Yes, we've surpassed the $100 minimum threshold, which happened before the end of May 2010.

So we should receive our payment in July then.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this.

You're welcome :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Firstly, have you made over $100 so far? Google only sends out payments that are over $100. Secondly, Google pays NET 30, which means that they first send out the check or e-check at the end of the following month after it's earned. (This means that you will receive a check in the mail for May earnings in July)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

What browser / OS are you using?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm not sure why this would be. The new version loads a LOT faster, has fewer images, calls far fewer external JavaScript files, has far less advertising and contacts far less third party servers.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

You have two options.

Option one = you can have multiple subscription folders. You can separate all threads to follow up with in a separate subscription folder.

Option two = you can stop automatically subscribing to threads you post in. Just use the subscribed threads feature for threads you want to follow up with. You can use the link at the bottom of the page to see all threads you posted in.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hmm ... that's very very strange. Is anyone else experiencing a similar behaviour??

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Nick: Thank you, fixed :)
Aia: Aware of this and already on todo list

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm confused what you're asking. You can tell how people have been downvoted by looking at their profiles?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The rep icon colors reflect how your reputation was influenced. Green is good, red is bad, and the greyish-blue is neutral meaning your reputation was not affected, either because the reputation was earned in the Community Center and not in a technical forum, or because the person giving the reputation was a newbie with not enough rep power to influence anything.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Fixed.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Got it all working. :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yeah, sorry about that guys.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

No changes at all today were made.
