Hey guys! So sorry about that!! I will have James on it right away!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Indeed, a DaniWeb branding issue does play a part. However, other badges are most likely going to be coming in the future :)

We also have a whole new DaniWeb design set to launch next month, so stay tuned!! :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

HUH?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hey Niek :) Thanks for reporting this. It was actually a known screw-up on my part. To workaround some technical difficulties, we switched the newsletter from going out the first Tuesday of the month to going out the second Tues/Wed/Thurs of the month.

The problem is that I made the change the first weekend, and forgot to account for it going out just about the very next day!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Sorry for the late status update. This was related to an ad that was running in that section. The ad was temporarily taken down until it can be fixed on Monday. (Just for clarification, the ad was taken down early afternoon, I just got to updating this thread now.)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'd rather it be double escaped than unescaped and vulnerable.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Worked on it during the commercials and it should be good to go.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Gah! I spoke too soon. I just investigated and it seems that it's a BUG that they're not showing up in the first place. Investigating now ... but I'm going ot have to stop in ten minutes to watch Smallville.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It should be relatively easy to put Previous Thread and Next Thread links in the code snippets, news stories, etc.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Can you let me know if this has been fixed?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Gah! I spoke too soon ... :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Thanks for the catch! Fixed. :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Can you take a screenshot for me?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Please send me an example??

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The problem should hopefully be fixed now!

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Seems to be running speedy for me. We did some database improvements earlier today which actually reduced disk i/o load significantly.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The system probably got confused because you posted and did a search simultaneously, and it wanted to make sure you weren't a bot.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Perhaps deleted threads are counted differently?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Each time that you report a post, a thread gets created in a hidden moderator forum, and your post count goes up by one, even though it's a post you can't see.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well then be more vocal about which features you use and how you use them. :) i.e. When you first visit DaniWeb, how do you begin your visit?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's not about there being space in the sidebar ... it's about what gets priority at the top of the sidebar. Plus, My Recently Viewed Threads (which, btw, is personal to you) is also in the works of being moved to the homepage only.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well, 650,000 users cannot be involved in every single discussion. Even 20 regulars who post in the feedback forum only represent the most vocal members and not necessarily an accurate representation of all devoted members.

Point is we had a three hour discussion among a group of people each with at least a few hundred posts. The conclusion we came to was that everybody uses the site differently and there's no way to please everyone because everyone wants their favorite way of browsing the site to be the most prominent.

Removing the favorite forums from the sidebar was only the first half of the puzzle and I wanted to finish it up before I addressed my reasoning for the entire change.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We had a conference the other day and decided that it wasn't that useful since there was a way to access the same links via the main navigation dropdown menu. Instead, that space at the top of the sidebar would be better served with links to today's posts, which was moved from far down.

The DaniWeb homepage is going to be entirely retooled to actually be useful, so hopefully it will make a good first destination when you visit the site.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I don't believe there is a difference. I think it's just a matter of coding standards.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi ... sorry, I don't really read PMs. Email is the best way to get in touch with me :)

Our donation system simply lends itself the best to a subscription-based service. Aside from all of the benefits such as access to Area 51, a bold username, custom user title, larger avatar, etc that you get for the duration that your member subscription is active, you also receive advertisement-free browsing on DaniWeb. For the most part, the cost of the monthly subscription balances out with the missed revenue from not showing you advertisements over the course of the month. Having it be a PayPal-based subscription also makes it really easy to manage and keep track of, since the forum system automatically integrates with the PayPal API to auto-promote you and auto-demote your DaniWeb membership if your subscription doesn't get renewed.

If you just want to say thanks, you can PayPal me at cscgal@daniweb.com or mail a check to 1140 RXR Plaza, Uniondale NY 11556.

Hi, thanks for the report. I noticed it myself a few days ago but I can't seem to figure out why it is periodically doing this on-and-off. Still investigating.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Your username has been changed.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm so sorry. Server issues that are currently being looked into. I couldn't access the site at all until just now.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Yeap, thanks :) Site was down. Sorry about that.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We've been having database issues and this is a symptom of the slave database being unavailable.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Site has been down. Sorry :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

One of the main features of a forum system such as DaniWeb is that content never expires, and continues to help people for months and even years to come.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Well it always shows the full name for news stories. And I recently changed it to do it for tutorials and product reviews as well. Code snippets weren't supposed to be included in the list.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's actually not supposed to :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

We use Google as our primary search function, and it scans and indexes the page as a single entity, discounting the tags for the most part.

For a more advanced search, use our advanced forum search (link in sidebar) and there is a specific field to search the tags. Naming convention is typically to combine words so that Windows 7 becomes "windows7" but when stripping spaces makes things very hard to read dashes are often used. This is really quite standardized so there are off-site articles on proper tagging naming conventions.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It really is standard for tags to only be a single word. That's how most other popular sites do it. We changed to this method to be more standardized.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Hi there! Welcome back :) Hope you like all of the changes we've had since you last visited us.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I just went and fixed your indenting for you while I work on figuring out how to get you the option.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Err ... actually ... non-moderators might not have access to that menu.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

At the bottom of the thread (but above the tags) click the Thread Tools dropdown menu and select Edit Thread.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Do you still get this?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

It's not a bug. It's the new design.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Was a bit more involved than just some CSS tweaking ... but fixed nonetheless.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Fixed :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Ahhhh what happened to the profile viewing page now? It renders horrible in IE. I thought it was broken and didn't have profile information until i loaded it in FF and notice the tabs.

It did change, but it looks the same to me in IE as it does in FF?

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

The feature is going to be put back. It's just a matter of when I get around to it. Keep in mind, for each forum, you can see solved threads for that forum in the sidebar :)

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

There used to be a link in member profiles to see the list of threads that make up your solved threads statistic. However, this feature hasn't existed since the site relaunch. It's coming soon ... it wasn't removed for any particular reason other than it became low priority on the list of things to upgrade.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

Fixed.

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I'm sorry. In bed with a fever. This will have to wait :(

Dani 4,645 The Queen of DaniWeb Administrator Featured Poster Premium Member

I am fine with it, because that's actually what RSS feeds exist for. Check out the link in the footer of the page for some creative parameters that can be passed into RSS feeds.
