:icon_lol: and you are who to say i'm a hypocrite? Do you even KNOW me to say that i wouldn't?! HECK yes i'd volunteer to use my body on testing! Especially if it's for something thats going to help EVERYONE else, YES i would! LOL and who said anything about anyone being disected while they are alive?! lol All i'm saying is animals shouldn't be beaten up or burned, or ELECTRICUTED just because the owner is frustrated and can't deal with your own miserable life, or because they're bored and decide to take it out on an innocent animal that had NOTHING to do with it! I volunteer that the humane society, and i see a lot of mistreated animals all because some MORON can't deal with his own issues.

If you will reread what Jwenting wrote, you will discover that at no point did he state that you, personally, are a hypocrite. He merely stated that the a "vast majority" are. And I find it interesting that your counterargument doesn't have anything to do with testing, but rather with active abuse. I fail to see that the two are connected.

Edit: Adding another riddle of my own.

I am a devourer.

All that crosses my path will I engulf, though
some meals I am forced to gnaw on for a time
before I finally consume them.

The fickle wind is both my greatest ally and
my greatest foe. The touch of her breath may
give me new life, or may utterly obliterate me.

As the wind is to me, so I am become to mankind.
He may harness my power for himself, and I will
aid him, but should he grow careless, he too
will I devour.

Though they be held back, the stones of the
deepest earth desire to take on my nature.
Should they be freed upon the world, for a
time they too will devour all they touch,
even as I devour.

What am I?

EnderX 352 Posting Shark

Nah, better idea. Simply force them to live under the exact conditions they wish to enforce on others. See how long it takes them to break.

EnderX 352 Posting Shark

The world that God created was perfect. When mankind sinned, he broke that perfection. Our troubles since then have their source in that breaking, not in God's original creation.

What's the difference from killing a dog and killing a bunch of ants?

Mainly, that people tend not to think of ants as being cute.

What's the difference between slaughtering a pig or using a pig as a test subject for a specific drug.

Because the drug testing might actually provide a useful result. Although I'd be willing to be the groups that claim such would also claim that slaughtering the pig, even for food, was also wrong. I've heard about some group (can't recall who) who've tried to draw a parallel between the food chicken industry and the holocaust.

If testing drugs on animals can help us find cures for humans.. then why not??

Because they don't want cures for humans.

You are correct that I misstated; it should have been 'unemployment dropped'.

EnderX 352 Posting Shark

From some of what I've seen, the American Great Depression was caused by governmental mismanagement of a recession. Or, in other words, the government made it worse, not better.

Recovery began on paper with WW2, when the unemployment rate skyrocketed and paper earnings began to rise. The problem there is that unemployment jumped because the size of the military was increased (not a slur on the military, just pointing out a fact) and the paper wealth wasn't much use without a ready supply of goods to spend it on.

Full recovery began in the post-war era when production of civilian goods went back to near-normal levels and the paper wealth was rendered usable.

Item number 4. Using rad waste casks to manufacture fresh water from salt water, in Death Valley. According to all the unsubstantiated gossip I have been hearing over the years, the state of California is a drop or two short of fresh water, among other things. Seeing as how Death Valley is 198 feet below sea level, it would be a matter of simple physics to run a pipeline from the Pacific ocean to the valley and fill it with sea water. No pump would be needed, as gravity would provide all the siphon action that would be needed. A solar powered desalinating plant could be built at the site to provide distilled water to the rest of the state, and neighboring states. Also, a turbo generator could be placed in the pipeline to generate electricity as a by-product. It would be a simple matter to use …

Is someone messing with a system css or xsl page? Yesterday, I came onto the site, and after a few minutes, the coffeehouse messed up. The normal banners weren't working; all possible extended links in the dropdown segment up top were showing, and as far as I can tell all stylistic formatting was lost. The on-hover descriptions appeared to have gone bold, in some font that looks almost like a 16point or 18point size. It only affected the coffeehouse; other branches of the forum looked normal. The situation was somehow resolved after a few hours.

And it just happened to me again. I haven't checked any other forum branches out, but the Geek's Lounge and Feedback forums have gone screwy again.

I'm running Firefox, 1.5.0.12, if that helps any.

Edit: Checked out the Perl, PHP, and Pascal/Delphi forums; they're looking normal.

Choice ? No, very few if any gays choose to be gay, just like straight people choose to be straight. So what is it -- I don't think anyone knows.

Technically, a case could be made for choice. There is a difference between having homosexual inclinations and being homosexual; the latter requires specific action to be taken along the lines of the former. Even if someone is, for some reason, inclined toward such behavior, they still have the ability to choose otherwise. I acknowledge that in today's culture (in the US at least) the word abstinence is unpopular, but it's still an option.

EnderX 352 Posting Shark

Yes, the gays do statistically contract HIV more often that others.. however, let's not get carried away.. aids can affect us all.. and not only that, but I'm sure the heterosexuals have probably started more diseases that the homosexuals..

I merely pointed out that a specific disease has its largest predominance among a specific subset of humankind...in this case, homosexuals. And yes, the Human Immunodeficiancy Virus can infect anyone...but it has its greatest instance of infection among Homosexual individuals, or the somewhat overlapping group of drug addicts who share contaminated needles. And there's been a huge flap about how Heterosexual AIDS will become common for over a decade now, possibly closer to two, yet the disease is still mostly limited to the group(s) named above.

And unless you're postulating genetic engineering or biowarfare, I'd say that mankind hasn't created any such diseases, but yes, there are a number of STDs which seem to have shown up first among normal (that is, heterosexual) interactions. Although it'd be interesting to do a study on the prevalence of those diseases among the two communities as well...Anyway, I was simply pointing out one disease, which has become such a political hotbutton that the ferver and vehemence behind it make it exceedingly well known.

EnderX 352 Posting Shark

> actually gay sex is the source of many diseases...
And of course heterosexual sex is of course completely disease free - what the hell are you smoking.

From the statistics I've seen, the incidence of Aquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome in the United States is something like still 98% within the somewhat overlapping communities of homosexual individuals and shared-needle drug users. (There's a reason AIDS was called the 'Gay Plague' until the Political Correctness Police shut the term down.) From what I can tell, Nichito's not saying that normal sex (yes, I just said that) is completely disease-free, he's saying that some diseases seem to have started among, and are found more commonly among, homosexuals than heterosexuals.

I'm sorry if the title isn't the most informative, but this is something that I've had happen to me twice recently. I don't know if it's a problem on my end, I don't know if it's something that really needs to be worried about, but I thought I'd toss it out so that those more knowledgeable than I could take a look at it.

Twice recently, I've apparently had my links history undone. That is, threads that I had visited, which had previously had the 'already visited' link style (non-bolded), were once more in the bolded, 'unread' style. Additionally, the 'New Subscribed Threads' space in my control panel reloaded itself with threads I'd already been to that hadn't been updated since that time. I had not manually logged out at either of these times.

I do not know what caused the problem the first time. The second time, the problem appeared after I hit the refresh button on my browser twice, as the server appeared to be taking too long on the first refresh...that is, the green progress bar at the lower left corner of my Firefox window was visible but empty, and remaining so. I do not know that my double-refresh was what caused the problem, but it is the only thing I can think of that I did about the time the situation occured.

I do not know that this is a critical problem. After all, all that's really happened is that I've regained some …

LOL And do you know that from personal experience

No. The closest I've ever come to being arrested is a parking ticket on my college campus, an incident where a teacher accused me of using 'hate' material in an assignment, and getting pulled over for going 62mph in a 50mph zone ~5 blocks from my house.

However, my father is a police officer, and I've enjoyed some of his stories enough I've sought out more stupid criminal stories elsewhere. "These aren't my pants" was the title of a collection of such, from the series 'America's Dumbest Criminals'.

obviously there is some controversy as to whether homosexuality is a choice or 'genetic'.

Choice. I've seen a couple of arguments about possible biological or genetic factors that might influence someone, but ultimately it's still the individual's choice. If nothing else, they could choose to abstain.

Maybe true in some countries, but not here in usa. The jobs the government creates when it spends money gives people an income who in turn pay taxes which gives the government more money so that it can create more jobs. The federal government gives a state $100 million to build a new bridge and the state must hire 50 people to do that job.

How is that creating new jobs? In your bridge-building example, wouldn't the contract go to already-established jobholders during the bidding process?

From what I've seen, most government-granted jobs fall into one of two formats. One of them is …

A new one. I played a bit loose with some of the descriptions for the sake of poetry.

Air-wrought metal, such am I,
Child of ground, child of sky.

My father, child of the deep and ground,
oft seals liquids in devices round.

My mother, airy though sometimes suffering strife,
offers her gifts as a sustainer of life.

My endurance is known far under the sun,
The toughest I am, save only one.

My children I bear within my sight,
They three abound with crystalline light.

A daughter imbued with crimson mist,
A son whose nature is truest blue,
Another by sunset's light is kissed,
As they bound across the spectrum's hue.

What am I?

because if you understand even the smallest bit of the greenhouse effect and its relationship with CO2 levels you would not talk such foolish talk.

i am apt to agree with george bush that the kyoto protocol is not the answer. but to say that the whole global warming thing is natural. and that mankind neither caused it nor can he reversed it is very much like an ostrich sticking its head into the sand and hoping that by not seeing or knowing it can pretend that it is not happening.

Okay, if you're going to bring up the Carbon argument, consider this question: Which puts more CO2 into the atmosphere, human activity or natural activity?
