I have a Dell Mini netbook. I am trying to remove the hard drive to upgrade it. It is held in place by two screws. I can't remove the screws, and I have tried with a variety of screw drivers, but now they are stripped.

Any suggestions? Or should I take it to the Geek Squad or send it to Dell?

Dear Rodney,

Can that be fixed, or should I replace the RAM chip(s)?

Thanks,

Ken

Hello,

You have a bad memory chip. What is happening is it is in the upper memory and you are not using that register till after you have been running a bit.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP, SP2. I just got a blue screen with the following error message:

<<Hardware Malfunction
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
The system has halted>>
The computer still boots and this error message comes after some time.

What can I do to fix it?

I setup my Outlook Express to download Gmail messages. It downloaded some of the Inbox messages, but now when I try to download the rest of them, I get the following error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800C0133

Also, none of the Gmail Sent messages will download.

I tried using POP as well as IMAP but I still get the same error message.

Operating system: WinXP):
Program and version you use to access Gmail: Internet Explorer 8 & Outlook 6
Antivirus software: Kaspersky Internet Security

I solved the problem. The hard drive got corrupted and I couldn't boot the computer. So Dell sent a replacement hard drive and the CD to restore Windows XP and it included IE7. I will stick with that version for now.

We have a Dell laptop running Windows XP, SP3 and Internet Explorer 8. The previous URLs visited keep disappearing after going to another website. I checked Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History and "Delete browsing history on exit" is not checked, so I don't know what is causing this.

We have another Dell laptop running the same IE8 and that doesn't happen.

I saw another posting in the forum where someone else had the same problem, and someone replying to the posting suggested running Winsocks Fix. I tried that and so far, the computer has not frozen up. If it does it again, I will try your suggestion.

Thanks,

Ken

Hi
What happens when you run local applications without having IE open. Does your machine still freeze. Run big apps or play a game and post a reply after doing so. Run the test over a long period.

It might be network packets thats causing this delay.
Do that and send a reply.

I was keeping IE7 up to date.

I downloaded IE8 and I am having the same problem. The computer freezes and CTRL/ALT/DELETE doesn't even work. I have to unplug the power and disconnect/reconnect the battery and then startup the computer again.

I have run Registry Mechanic, Kaspersky Antivirus & Defrag, but nothing works.

When the computer freezes, I got the standard message that IE has encountered a problem and must close, and asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft.

Any other suggestions?

When you press Cntrl+ALT+DEL, click on the processes tab on the
top of Task Manager and see what is the percentage of CPU Usage.

Do you get any error messege when your Computer freezes?

Did you update your Internet Explorer application before this problem started to take place?

What version of IE do you have?

Try the new IE (IE8), which you can download from here.

Good Luck,

Cohen

I have a Dell laptop with Windows XP, SP2. After using
Internet Explorer for a while, the computer freezes up. Control/Alt/Delete does not clear it and the only thing that works is to unplug the power and disconnect and reconnect the battery. It happened twice within a couple hours.

I have run the anti-virus (Kaspersky) but there were no viruses or problems detected.

Any suggestions on how to get it to stop freezing up?

Ken

A few times a day, my Kaspersky Antivirus identifies and displays the following message:

Riskware / Invader
Running process (PID:1924):
c:\windows\system32\HPZinw12.exe

or a similar message with "PID:1924" being something different than that.

I always click on "Do Not Allow", but I am wondering what this is and if I alow it, if it could damage my system files. How can I get rid of it? When I run Kaspersky, it doesn't identify it and let me delete it.
