I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP, SP2. I just got a blue screen with the following error message:

<<Hardware Malfunction
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
The system has halted>>
The computer still boots and this error message comes after some time.

What can I do to fix it?

Hello,

You have a bad memory chip. What is happening is it is in the upper memory and you are not using that register till after you have been running a bit.

Dear Rodney,

Can that be fixed, or should I replace the RAM chip(s)?

Thanks,

Ken

Replace the chips. You probably only need to replace one and It will most likely be in the highest numbered slot (DIMM 4 or 3)
