It ssems that my contractor is set on the idea of his clients being able to admin' their own sites, altering content, adding pages etc.... yet I'm not particularly sure this is a good idea.

We've used several different tools. Typically though we just give them certain areas of the site they can update. Most recently we've used www.wysiwygpro.com's html editor to embed into our own CMS design. It's given us alot of flexability for allowing clients to edit their own content. We haven't gone so far as setting them up to manage menu's etc, but that wouldn't be difficult to program.

one thing i dont like about it, is the syntax, it has horrible syntax, but working through that, you can almost anything with that stuff.

Being an old school C programmer, it isn't much of a stretch for me. I find JS pretty easy to work in, once you figure out what objects point to what. Of course, this is completely beside the point that I have always had issues with untyped languages... but I can't seem to escape them.

You could also use a pseudorandom number calculated by the same means on both the client and server programs. You could pass this via an IPC mechanicsm. Not exactly 'secure', but would keep anybody from randomly executing.

I'm getting a BSBA Computer Information Systems. Does anyone here have that degree? What type of job do you have or have had. Is this degree pointless compared to a CS degree?

I'd say it depends on the program. I personally went for the CS degree. I have worked with, and hired/not hired people from both types of programs. It always depended on the job. Some schools still call them MIS degrees (uhg). It really comes down to what you wish to do in your career: technical, or manager type (IMHO).

CS types tend to be more technical and mathematical in nature, CIS tends to push the business side of things. Our CIS people primarily do project management type jobs (MS project, paper work paper work paperwork). The CS types do all the 'real' work. (No offense intended to CIS/MIS types :))

hello...
any one have any idea about sql injuction....how i can retrieve database from any site..

Raza.

Injection. SQL Injection. From the way you state the question, it sounds like you have evil-doer intentions. In basic terms, it's the substitution of SQL parameters with executable SQL code in order to hi-jack or do harm to an online SQL database. There are plenty of examples on the web, try a google search for SQL Injection.

If JS is being 'phased' out, somebody better tell google. All of their new technologies such as gmail, google maps, google suggest etc, all leverage JS and XMLHttp and more.

I'd recommend dumping them. That's way out of line. Hosting is cheap these days and it's easy to find a better provider. When we have clients that exceed bandwidth, we'll typically just clear the block so their website is running again. Assuming it isn't abused, it's really just a soft limit for us.

I own a web hosting company, and I have to somewhat agree with everyone else. As a hosting company, we need to be able to offer domain registration through the sign-up process just to make things as painless as possible. Our registration is all done through a major registrar, however we still have control over all the domains that are registered through us. A disreputable hosting provider could swipe your domain very easily. So better be safe than sorry and register your domains yourself - unless you either know the hosting company personally, or else don't have a huge vested interest in possibly losing your domain.

What kind of detail are you looking for? A quick google search turned up several tutorials.. not exactly an "e-book", but effective all the same... example: http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/

I had something similar happening a while back.. unfortunately I don't remember how I fixed it. I may have tweaked the /winnt/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file (or was that something else?)

Regardles.. Dump IE and start using firefox. You'll thank yourself in the morning. http://www.mozilla.org
