I have tried a promotion of giving away gmail invites back when they were at the point of people paying a good chunk of money for them and that brought in some members but most of the members that that brought in only posted so much to get there invites and then left and never came back. i have had more success with just having my site indexed well on google :)
Since we both run similar types of forums I actually saw your forum returned in google. Have you optimized the site any or do you pay for google adwords?
You may get a steep fall in visitors from google if you get banned from google, from doing things such as being a linkfarm and linking to those no no type of sites such as pharmaceuticals, online casinos etc.

To add to that becareful of running certain traffic scanning scripts that interact with google's PR system on your server. Sites that scan for PR are not sanctioned by google and they do get banned. :evil:
CSCGAL how much would you set as your daily limit if your advertising a forum with google adwords? Google adwords was effective when I ran a used software purchasing business but seems to lack in the forum world. Any suggestions?
