I am a computer tech and own my own shop I have had several HP DV7 in my shop with the same problem. the symptoms that you are describing have to do with over heating problem but it is not a bad CPU, it has to do with the GPU (graphic card). I do this kind of repair several times a week especially on HP laptop starting from the DV2000 model. the reason is the way the cooling system is inside the system that does allow enough airflow to go through the heat sink when it gets clogged. the system inside get so hot that it meld the solder connections on the GPU when the system cools down the joints get ring cracks or cold solder on the BGA, now the video chip does not have a connection to the board and that is why you do not see a display. cooling pad only give airflow to the bottom of your laptop but if their is no airflow going threw the system itself it will get hot. I would suggest you send it back in for a warranty repair and if you are a smoker don't let them know as it may void your warranty and I am serious about that.

That is for your front switches and lights the one you are looking for has no wire comming out of it, I still have a few dead e-machine motherboards here. What you should be looking for is a black or white jumper block. connected to 2 pins out of 3 next to it should say CMOC or bios configuration. If you can not find this just remove the cmoc battery for 20min and put it back and see what happens. I have fix over 70 e-machines in the past year with the same problem and 90% had to have the power supply and board replaced.

If you did remove the ram and did not here any beeps that would indicated that your MB has gone bad. Usually the CPU does not go bad only if the CPU fan was not working.

It will be a jumper near the battery, it will have only 3 pins 2 are jumped by a little block called a jumper if you move that jumper from the 2 and jump it it will be pin 1-2-3 pin 1-2 should have the jumper now move it to 2-3 then back to 1-2 .

Yes, That is what should happen when you remove the ream is that the computer should constantly beep. So you have 2 mem sticks and it is doing the same thing with both, try unplugging the main power off the board then clear the cmoc by jumping the jumper near the battey. leave it like this for 5 min or so the reconnect see if it does the same thing if so then it has to do with the memory either the memory it self or the board.

Any cleaning solution will due alcohol or 409 on a cloth, but if it does the same thing then you have a bad stick of ram.

Try booting into safe mode by hitting F8
If you are able to get into safe mode
right click my computer
select properties
Select the Hardware tab
then select device manager
go to display adapter click on the + sign right click the video card and click uninstall.
Then restart your computer.
When you restart windows should go through because the display drivers are not installed and it is using generic drivers that are used by windows. What may have happened is that the drivers for your display may have gotten corrupted or conflicting with another device this what usually happens when this accuses hopefully this should work and windows will reinstall your original drivers back.

What type of computer is it?
Did it freeze up?

I have seen alot of e-machines come in with this problem and it usually indicates a motherboard problem. I am not saying it is, one way to check is to disconnect the power supply wait 5-10 sec and plug it back in to see if it turns on automatically If it does then usually means bad motherboard. Also try removing the ram sticks and turn it back on if your board is good then you should hear some constant beeping if not then you may have a bad board.

When your pc will not boot but you hear a constant beeping that indicates that you have a bad ram stick. I see that you disconnected the ram try cleaning it and inserting it into the other ram slot if that does not work replace the ram.

Hello
I have been a tech for a while and for the past year I have had dozens of emachines come in with the same problem. One easy way to test out if it is your board is to unplug it. Then plug it back in if the pc turns on right away without hitting the power button then you have a faulty board. If this is the case I suggest that you change your power supply as well. this is due to the fact that the power supply surges and spikes the board 75% of the emachines that I have serviced this year had to have the power supply replaced I lost a few boards because of it. Lucky that I am a dealer and was able to exchange them.

Another way to test your board is to listen to any beeps if you do hear a beep that means that your board is ok. If you do not open up your pc pull out the ram and turn it back on this should give you several beeps if you still do not hear any thing then it is your board.

Hopefully this will help you out.
