Hi Phreak,
When you joined this site, you were supposed to have read and then agreed to the rules of this forum. Why would you now question what you agreed to. The rules are there for a reason so abide by them. If you want a site where you can give the info you want, start one!!!
Are you mental? about 3 years ago i helped someone with the EXACT same problem and there are other threads here which help people who have forgotten passwords/been given second hand pc\bought second hand pc\trying to fix there mothers pc who has forgotten her password etc. Not just this section!!!
I my self wrote a VBS scripts and helped others write similar scripts to resolve other similar issues.
So at what point does your post make the slightest bit of sense in what i was refering to!
My point is that currently we dont follow the rules that are set, neither do all the mod, also i was helping someone out with a request and have done so for many years so i would appreciate you keeping your unhelpful opinion to your self. I was replying with helpful useful advice to a member, then once advised that we should not help, raised a point with copperjack... however my main argument still stands, because if this was against the rules... WHY IS IT STILL HERE!
I suggested it be removed so remove it.. Why are we having this discussion …
We dont know, but if thats the case we cant really answer any questions on retreiving deleted data, backing data up, installing software, finding or changing product keys due to borked installations, how to format a pc ... where do we stop :-)
Seems bizarre not to help someone who forgot a password when we allow scripts that retreive data and windows product keys etc? Surly there is far more damage to be done with them...
If thats the case though, you should delete me post advising them to use knoppix or bartPE as they are pretty much designed for recovery type situations...
Seems very odd not to help this particular thread though, considering that a quick search pulls up hudreds of other threads (over 50 pages worth) advising people how to reset windows, rar, zip, mac os, bios, office and database passwords etc ... some even with replies and advice from team members? x
Hi, I have a copy of Windows XP SP3, i can give you an Image copy of it if u still in need, it is my personal copy and needs no activation. just send me your email add so i can send you the copy
Although I love you enthusiasm in assuming that a honest genuine software owner requires a pirated version of XP to resolve his issue, I'm sure that if he wants a pirated copy of XP with a VLK ... he'll know where to get one... and this really aint the place for that...
Also...
A pirate copy of XP is not really going to resolve his issue is it?
He wants to install HIS GENUINE product key not a VLK slammed into a unatended.sif or a disk with an activation crack slipstreamed. He will still have the same issue...
If he has bad media... fair enough he can copy any XPSP3 disc or download one that does not have a VLK or an activation crack slipstreamed ... Microsoft dont care where we get our media from as long as the KEY is legit... and thats the issue we have posted here...
His media is faulty, but he has a LEGIT KEY. Using your "no activation" disc means he still has not used his LEGIT KEY (as yours will no doubt be a Corp VLK with the key slipstreamed) and if by some miricle he does get to use his own key …
Hi,
There are so many things this could be...
If your connected to your monitor via VGA then all i can suggest is setting your monitor to your native screen resolution (1440X900 or 1600x1050 1920x1200) or whatever your native resolution is.
Then ensure your refresh rate is set to 60hz or whatever your native refresh rate is for your monitor.
Then enable "clear type" in the display menu.
Then on your monitor press the auto "adjust button" and the screen will adjust its own timings to the timings recieved from your GFX card.
Also ensure you have the latest GFX card drivers and DirextX redist installed.
One last thing... if you are connected via VGA take it out and connect via DVI :-) VGA sucks at higher resolutions! I run a 24" 1920X1200 monitor in both DVI and VGA (2pc's connected) and when i switch between the 2 the difference is "night and day".
If however you are connected via a DVI cable, well... other than an upgrade of drivers and DirectX redist there is not much to offer in terms of advice, as DVI is much more direct. Things like auto adjust etc on a monitor will not function via DVI as the timings etc are perfectly synced.
Keep us posted on how you get on... ohh and some some useful info to help us trouble shoot your problem would be...
What monitor do you have?
…
If you have Regestered/Activated the first key with MS (and it is a legal key) then you can call them up and advise them that you have replaced your PC or formatted it etc and reinstalled your OS.
In which case your old key will be re-issued for activation and you can then just install SP3.
This situation will resolve you issue, unless of couse the first key is still in use on another PC!
If so (and this is an additional PC with an additional instance of XP) then you will want to read on.
So...
You can change you windows product key after installation as described in this KB on the MS site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328874
However, if i were you i would just reburn my media (your SP3 disc) as long as it is LEGAL and within all copyrights etc!
If it is a downloaded and LEGAL ISO then redownload from you supplier or Technet or whereever you purchased it ...
but this time burn it sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwer!
As your error sounds very similar to a disc being burned to fast! ISO's need to be burned on a very low speed setting, usually the slowest speed available is advised.
If it is an illegal copy, dont tell us anymore!

UPDATE ***
Right i have now got the vbs code running sucsessfully within the hta code :-)
What i have done so far is to create a functioning text entry box with a hidden/protected password entry text field (**********etc)
then i have told te hta to run the sub containing the vbs code only when the "GO" button is pressed.
This works perfectly, However, it will run the the vbs code when the button is pressed, no matter what you've enter into the text fields (if anything at all)...
We need to tell the "GO" button it to run the sub (vbs) ONLY when the text in both fields =
Username = "X"
Password = "Y"
If the above criteria is not met, to just close the application or throw back an error or whatever.
Ill edit the above posts to tidy things up a bit as well...
Keep your help coming, im struggeling with this final part...

Edit... well i would tidy my posts up a bit if i could edit them :-)
Thanks for replying so quickly. This morning I made another bios update diskette and flashed it again. It took the upgrade this time...thank goodness. But now the memory I purchased wont work. The computer starts, but I only get a black screen. I have tried a combination of new and old memory and only the old memory is recognized. Is there a settiing for this or could both sticks be defective? I know this is off topic, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks.
Hi,
I know you may have alreay tried this however it is best prctice and recommended by gigabyte and other major manuf's that you go into your bios and "load optimized settings" after a bois flash. Once this is done i would also check the ram you have purchesed 1 stick at a time.
What speed ram did you buy?
Does your motherboard support tht speed?
Also what Voltage ram did you buy?
Does your board support that voltge?
I recently bought £200 woth of 1066DDR2 ram from OCZ (water cooled) only to findout that gigabyte have only allowed an increas to 0.3v in the bios and i require 0.4 for stable 1066 performance.
Therefore i had similar issues when my pc tried to boot at 1066mhz... until then i am currently running at the lower 800mhz awaiting revision 2 bios from GB.
Try that and let me know, the other thing you can try is booting to …
have you tried booting to safe mode and clicking Administrator. if you can log in there as admin then add another user acct and insert your own password for that acct. then restart normally and log in to that newly created acct.
No need to boot into safe mode to log in as admin? just hit ctrl+alt+del 3 times at the welcome screen to bring up classic login mode or if its using classic login already just change user name to Administrator or guest.
A better way to do this however would be to use a live cd such as BartPE or a linux distro such as knoppix and boot from a live cd to create a new account or reset the password for the current admin account.
Very easy and takes only a few mins at most. I have a custom bartPe style disc that i carry on my USB. Go for BartPe or Knoppix both very good as resolving this type of issue in minutes.
There are other ways but i find that very easy and user friendly either at work or at home.
Hope that helps,
Phreak
Hi friends,
I need a programme or procedure which is capable in generating IP or computer name of the system( on which programme is running).Thank you
Hi,
Has this been resolved or are you still looking? I have a very quick and easy 3 line tiny piece of code i used ages ago that will give you exactly what you need (PC name)... Then you can edit it to your hearts content to give you usernames etc as well...
if you still require it let me know and ill pop it in here for ya... :-)
Edit***
I've just re-read that... do you mean you want a program to create a PC name on the PC in which the app is ran ... or to greturn the pc name of the pc your running the app on?
Your post can be read both ways... :-)
My little line of code will give you the name of a pc you run it on, and/or the username of the users logged in etc... i found it very hand when i uneeded it a few years ago for back up purposes.

Update**
I've made a few ammendments and also found out from MSDN that even though the hta is a glorified vbs (vbs with support for html) the WScript.Shell etc command may not be supported.. Ho-hum
so here is the update... nearly there :-)
<head>
<title>testapp</title>
<HTA:APPLICATION
APPLICATIONNAME="testapp"
SCROLL="no"
SINGLEINSTANCE="yes"
>

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBScript">
Sub Window_onLoad
intWidth = 300
intHeight = 200
Me.ResizeTo intWidth, intHeight
Me.MoveTo ((Screen.Width / 2) - (intWidth / 2)),((Screen.Height / 2) - (intHeight / 2))
End Sub
Sub runcmdline
On Error Resume Next
Dim UserString, UserPassword, WshShell
UserString = login.Value
UserPassword = password.Value
Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run "ping or whatever"
Set WshShell = Nothing
'Clear the boxes now that we are done using the info
login.Value = ""
password.Value =""
UserString=Nothing
UserPassword=Nothing
End Sub
</SCRIPT>
<body bgcolor="cyan"><center>
<h1>testapp</h1>
<table align="center">
<tr><td>Name:</td><td><input type="text" name="login" size="30"></td></tr>
<tr><td>Pasword:</td><td><input type="password" name="password" size="30"></td></tr>
<tr><td colspan="2" align="center"><input id=runbutton type="button" value="Go" name="run_button" onClick="runcmdline"></td></tr>
</td></tr>
</table>
<p>
<span id = "DataArea"></span>
</center></body>
So if i can get that "runcmdline" to actually run when the correct username and password are entered and the button is pressed ... then thats it done... and when the wrong details are entered and the button is pressed it just needs to throw bck a warning message and close.
:-)
feel free to chip in if anyone has any ideas on how to help,
Thanks in advance

This can be tested by saving the text to a .hta and running. it …
Hi folks,
Due to being unable to find a suitable app, i've decided to make a little app (with the help from my trusty DWeb chums)
Currently i'm looking at a little app that will allow me to enter a username and password for... whatever purpose really, map drive, shared folder etc etc etc"
I have found and modified a "hta" script that has a username and passwrod text entry field.
What i would like to add now is... after enterting the username and password and clicking the "run script" button, the script will verify the username and password entered with the one stored inside the script its self.
Then i want to add a modified vbs script into the hta script that will run a cmd prompt and perform the comand i want it to... Does that make sense :-)
its very nearly complete, however im just on the final streach now but cant seem to see where i need to go next...
Heres what we have so far in hta.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice, although I am a little confused?
I want to create a vbs script that will sit in the same directory as the "textfile1.txt" etc and once run it will open each text file consecutively and search the file for a reference to "max100" and then change that reference to "max200" and save the file and move on to the next file "textfile3.txt" etc etc and so on...
the bootini is no longer required but this code (with help from comatose) does contain a lot of the required features I need as it does very similar tasks. Basically what is required is a script to open up consecutive ".txt" files and change all references of "max100" to "max200"
any help is greatly appreciated
TIA
Hi
Can you help with amending this code, so it no longer looks at the boot ini, but will look at apx 200 separate texts files called "textfile1.txt" "textfile2.txt" etc etc consecutively for the line of text "Max100" and remove and replace with "max200"
This is a piece of code from a previous script that locates the boot.ini at c:\boot.ini and searches it for a dupe entry and removes it... any help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

Hi all,
It's been a long time since i was last logged in here. Comatose was probably glad to see the back of me and my non stop questioning ;-)
Well today i have a small question which i hope someone can help with...
Here is my question... im trying to copy a profile for the currently logged in user to specified location.
The location of the profile will presumable be,
"c:\documents and settings\" + %username%
and the destination will be,
x:\ProfileBackup\%computername%\%username%\
Here is what i thought ws right but isnt...
' /* Declare Variables */
Dim fso, src, dest
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
src = "c:\documents and settings\%USERNAME%\"
dest = "x:\ProfileBackup\%computername%\%username%\"
If fso.FolderExists (src) Then
fso.CopyFolder (src), (dest)
End If
If Not fso.FolderExists (dest) Then
fso.CreateFolder (dest)
End If
Ideally what i was trying to do (badly) was copy a users profile to a network drive to a folder named by the computername and userprofile so that there would be a different back up for each machine they logonto.
However!!!
This may prove troublesome depending on network speeds and profile size etc.. so i was also hoping someone could help and add into the script the ability to copy a single folder "Favorites" from here instead and rem it out. or the ability to copy 2 or 3 folders at a time rather than the entire profile ;-)
I hope someone can help
Thanks in advance.
…Ill definetly have alook as we have had several problems with dells, however
you forgot to post the link?
Please do.
You could always use bartpe
Takes about 10 minutes to complete the entire build process. Enusre you build a bootable ISO and you can install the operating system "live" Loads the operating system into memory and does not touch the local HDD's.
build your own custom version, make sure you include the latest version of Windows Password Renew 1.0-RC2 for WinPE.
"Password Renew lets the user change the password of the local Administrator account or create a new admin level user with a password of their choice. This is a great tool for getting into Windows boxes you don’t have an admin password for"
This tool must be used wisley.
Forgetting a password Admin or otherwise is never a major problem.
Phreek ;-)
Hi,
We use only dell pc's at our site and have encountered numerous faults with them blue screening. Mostly with the GX240 line, faulty drives, driver issues, windows updates causing the pc to crash? etc etc
After many attempts we discovered the easiest way was to reset the bios to default config, ensure all connections were secure, then delete all partitions on the C;\ drive if any, and then do a full format and a full clean installation of windows.
When you do this i recommend you have no extra components plugged in to the pc (such as mobile phones, usb pen drives, joystciks, internet etc etc etc...) have the pc as basic as possible keyboard mouse and monitor. Once it has set up, install each one 1 at a time then you will be able to pinpoint the problem. To me is sounds like a possible driver issue.
We have had occasions where usb pens were causing computers to crash during boot (dont ask i dont make the rules?)
I know i havent told you much else from what you have already done but to be honest i would open her up, check every ide/sata connection then delete all partitions, then do a clean full ntfs format, then a full clean installation of windows. Some times its easier and quicker to wipe than it is to search for whats causing the problem..
then install your other items one by one.....
Probably not …
LMAO....
it makes perfect sense now. How did i not understand that?
Right i tell you what... I'm going to have an early night tonight and try and keep off the computer.. I'll watch a movie or something instead.
Sometimes its better to just walk away and forget everything, I've been mis-understanding the simplest of things latley. Been really busy here at work, think i just need a day or to wind down.
I think i need:
Bath, good dinner, Early night, no pc...
HA. :rolleyes: like that's gonna happen.
Home, Internet, 3am, pass out, wake up late for work, put same clothes (including pants) that i was wearing today.... :cheesy: :lol:
Seriously though Thanks again...
oh but one last question! As you have helped resolve every other question I thought i would see if anyone knew how to create a full blown operating system in VBS that supports plug and play, networking and and is really user friendly with a xp style gui?.....
Build that ya b*******s ;) :lol: :cheesy:
Cheers again guys, much appreciated.... ;)
Phreek
10 character limit on posts?
Ok i either need some sleep :cheesy: or i am thick as pig s**t. :sad: coz i dont understand what you mean? :rolleyes:
Thanks again though
There She goes....
Cheers again,
removed the i from the next command and corrected the numbers and it works correctly..
Genious.
Thanks again C~
Cheers C~
My heads a bit all over the place, Busy day today...
Ok, i removed the strings from the text im pretty sure that there are some other lanauge issues, now it throws back and error in line 202 of "Expected end of statement" that line is the "next i" line?
not sure but i was thinking should this be a if command in vbs then it would go to the next if?
i also ammended all the as strings parts and changed the word count from 26 down to 25 as it runs from 0 to 25 (i think thats right). here is the script without all the a to z's
Dim Secure
UnSecure = inputbox("Enter Your Password")
Secure = passGen(UnSecure)
msgbox "Your Secure Password is: " & Secure
WScript.Quit
Function passGen( password )
Dim words([B]25[/B],3)
Dim strTemp
Dim intRnd
Dim result
' /* What you need to do are assign all
' the similar of each letter of the alphabet */
' /* Assign Similar Values For 'A' */
words(0, 0) = "@"
words(0, 1) = "/\"
words(0, 2) = "^"
words(0, 3) = "4"
words(0, 4) = "a"
words(0, 5) = "A"
Randomize
' /* start generate each character
' into secure character. */
For i = 1 To Len(password)
' /* store the current character
' that we try to convert */
strTemp = Mid(password, i, 1)
' // Random similar letter of alphabet
intRnd = Int(Rnd * [B]5[/B])
' …
Ok,
i think i am missing something here...
i get an error when i try and run this code as it is. (with the a to z completed)
the first line throws back an error on line 1 "Dim Secure as string" there must be something wrong with that?
then line 9 "Function passGen( password As String ) As String" there must be something wrong with that.
then this has an error "Dim strTemp As String"
am i way off target here or am i supposed to changed the parts where it says as string, coz these seem to be the bits that fail every time?
another question is "Dim words(26, 3) As String" has 26 as there are 26 letters but they are numbered from 0 to 25 so i presume it still includes all 26 of them and it counts a 0 as a actual number.? if so then why is the 3 a 3? should that not be a 4? and will i have to up the number when i add another letter variable and so on.... also if it says 4 will all the letters have to have the same amount of variables (4) or can they have different amounts of UPTO 4? or will it fail it it comes across a letter with only 3 for example.
Cheers again
Ok, im getting there? do i need to move the first dim down near the rest or shall i move the rest up? from what i was reading i should keep all the declarations of variables together? (or iam i yet again way off target) :-)
also it thows back an error on the first line of i try to run it? even with all the A to Z letters included?
about my previous question, do i need to add the upper and lower case versions of the letters into each letter section of the script for example...
' /* Assign Similar Values For 'B' */
words(1, 0) = "8"
words(1, 1) = "|3"
words(1, 2) = "|}"
words(1, 3) = "B"
words(1, 4) = "b"
or just
' /* Assign Similar Values For 'B' */
words(1, 0) = "8"
words(1, 1) = "|3"
words(1, 2) = "|}"
words(1, 3) = "B"
without the lower case version can i get to the script to recognise the letter it picked was a letter that is either "A, B, Z etc" then to reandomly decide weather it wants to make it upper or lower case?
AS for the ramdomise time anyone else have any ideas on that?
Thanks again for the input everyone, its great seeing something be built upon by everyone to get it to work..
i really appreciate all the input...
randomize question answered......you posted as i asked.... ;)
cheers :)
Ill presume this problem is fixed, but for future reference.....
Have you tried booting into safe mode and deleting the files from there.
Reboot, press f8, select, safemode. go in and wipe em.
A corrcetion to your not above..
This is perfectly possible with the ATi range of cards. It is called SurroundView and you can have up to 4 monitors used at once. The chipsets this works with are basically any radeon card and either the x200 chipset or the IGP9100.
I currently use a 9700 (X850 XT PE in the post) in a shuttle XPC with the X200 X200 chipset as my home entertainment system and it works superb. Better than nView etc.
information on shuttle with surroundview can be found here:
Information on the chipset from ATi can be found here:
Hope this is useful
it would be easier if you go to task manager, "ctrl, alt del" and go to processes and see which process is using the most of your cpu?
From there post the process that is eating the cpu usage and we can see what it is and advise you accordingley.
ta
additional...
ive completed the "A to Z" part of the script so now we have
Function passGen( password As String ) As String
Dim words(26, 3) As String
Dim strTemp As String
Dim intRnd As Integer
Dim result As String
' /* Assign Similar Values For 'A' */
words(0, 0) = "@"
words(0, 1) = "/\"
words(0, 2) = "^"
words(0, 3) = "4"
to
' /* Assign Similar Values For 'Z' */
words(25, 0) = "Z"
words(25, 1) = "z"
words(25, 2) = "2"
words(25, 3) = "2"
' /* What you need to do are assign all
' the similar of each letter of the alphabet */
Randomize
' /* start generate each character
' into secure character. */
For i = 1 To Len(password)
' /* store the current character
' that we try to convert */
strTemp = Mid(password, i, 1)
' // Random similar letter of alphabet
intRnd = Int(Rnd * 3)
' /* if it is a alphabet then
' we will replace it with similar string */
If UCase(strTemp) <> LCase(strTemp) Then
' /* start replace similar word into string */
result = result & words(Asc(UCase(strTemp)) - 65, intRnd)
Else
' /* if it isn't a alphabet
result = result & strTemp
End If
Next i
' /* return the result
passGen = result
End Function
ok so i'm up to there... what do i need to do now to get the script to run? Once its kind of running i …
Because i want it to include caps and lower case letters aswell will i need to put them (as in caps and lowewe case version of the letters) in to the variations part of the script as uppercase and a lower case letter for it to choose from? or just add the letter and if it picks it check it against alphabet to see if it IS a "A to Z" letter and if so randomly make it upper or lower case? or im i off my head????? ;-)
im working on the a to z bit now....... sill al ittle confused but ill do as much as i can now and get you updated... thanks aagain guys..
Cheers
:-)
hi guys,
you right about the special characters not needing changing (silly me) otherwise it could change a secure password into a non secure.. (doh) as long as it recognises they are not to be changed and leaves them exactly in tact where they are.
well thats ok then il just need to create the a to z of variations of the letters which is great...
Im slightly confised as to what to do next though? do i need to do anything to the code to get it to randomaize etc or is this done in the code provided.
Again sorry for the inadiquecy but i i am trying... :-)
at the monent im currently (vb for dummys book) learning how to take info from the regestry etc so as much as i wish i could take this code and run with it unfortunelty i still pull up a black as to what to do next. i can add all the similar characters in for the rest of the alphabet and i know how to create a text box/input box but may require some help....
Cheers again guys..
hi,
Thanks for the advice there,
However by doing it this way would that not mean i would also have to include similar values for symbols and numbers aswell? because if someones password was "Dinner2" then it would need to recognise the number? Also what if they entered a password of "D¦nner" would that mean i need to add values for evey key character avaialble on a standard keyboard just incase they included it into there code?
If so is there a quick way of doin it? or a resource containing some of the similar variations for a standard keyboard layout that i could use as a guide or reference. (or just copy and paste) ;-)
Cheers again
Elise
Hi All,
Before i start asking for advice on this just a quick mention to comatose to say thank you for all your previous help. Cheers..
Also just to say i believe my problem i pm'd you about has been resolved.. (i need to be a little more carful, i sometime get a bit relaxed with my security)
HENCE this question...
OK, since my previous question i have been learning how to code using Windows Scripting Learning Guide (Stop laughing, we all had to start somewhere) and am becoming better with my abilities to code.. Not perfect but getting there..
So.. I have an idea that i would like to see if its possible to create a piece of code that will allow a user to input and password of there choice into a text box and in return it will retun a more secure version of the password.
For example:
Let say my password was "DINNER" i would like the program to start with a input box and ask "Please enter the password you wish to secure" then the user enters there password, for example DINNER. I would then like the code to come back wth a response to the password by somehow searching the words, numbers and symbols of a standard keyboard layout an retun something like "D¦NN34"
it doesnt have to be exactly that but it searches randomly for words or symbols that closly resemble the word input "D1NN3R" …
Yeah everything is perfect,
Tried, tested and running flawlessly.
A great time saver.
Thanks again C~ i couldnt have paid someone for a better response. Ill try not to bug you to much with any other problems.
Great Response,
Great Resolution,
Great Work.
I now have a much easier time when having to create boring master clones.
For anyone else, just copy and paste the code on screen posted bt C~ and make the slight ammendments for your systems etc... and it will work flawlessley. Id be surprised if this doesnt come in hand for any other I.T folk!
Take it easy,
Ill hang around and see if i can help someone as much as C~ has helped me..... Just not a VBS script question... ;)
Elise
Wow :)
For lack of a better work........
I will take that and try it and let you know how it works.... I have to admit that i understood some of the code, but wow, that edit of the boot ini file must have take you ages, that is way beond my comprehension.
i just added the boot.ini edit part to the end of the slighly edited version and ill test it on another machine i have to do tomorrow.
Again thankyou very much indeed, ill certainly keep you posted as to whats going and how it works, whats weird is, i'm looking forward to tomorrow to test it out.. :) .. haha.. not very often i an exited about creating a master clone.
So far though i believe that this whole process has saved over 1hr or my time per master clone. That is a massive amount of time per person, per clone. I am very very happy with the end result.
If there is anything i can possibly do to help you anytime please just let me know and i will most certainly do all i can.
another cheeky little question.. ;)
Is there a way i can give a file more than 1 attribute and do you know of a resource so i can copy what all the numbers mean?
for example, can i give a folder, system, read only, hidden attributes all at the same time?
…
ill go over files copied and see exactly what was copied. It does seem to work correctly, just seems really fast. (Not complaining.) :)
Yeah the comments were very helpful, by doing it that way i almost feel confident that i could ammend similar pieces of code to do similar jobs.. This has taught me more, in a shorter period of time.
I am currently working on a master clone pc now, so i will give the code a test on that machine and see how it works in the field. And repost back any changes made or needed.
I feel like you have helped me out immensley and i have done nothing in return, so again i will say thanks for the help.
Ill let you know exactly how much time this actually saves me out in the field as well, because all we need do now is,
install windows, install client, run code, install programs, issue.
normally, its install windows, install client, set up default user account and settings, create folders, ammend boot files and system settings, input gpedit...blah blah blah blah..... the process eats away minutes than soon leak into hours.
Ill do this clone and update you with the progress.
Thanks again
Talk soon
Fantastic,
That works perfectly. Thank you so much.
There are a few little problems but i can research
and try and fix them (not with your code just to get it optimised for my pc's),
amazing piece of code. Im very very grateful.
Would it be possible to edit the end of the file so that instead of copying over the boot.ini, it actually opens it looks for the text saying timeout=30 and replaces it for timeout=10?
Im doing some research now and trying to see if i can figure it out.. (ohh dear..:))
I did however manage to add a few extras into the script, i put the attributes of the files\folders back to what they were after the folders are copied over, (i just copied your code and changed from 16 to 2) hope thats right, it seems to hide them so i hope it aint doing anything bad.
Its great having a piece of code like this because i can now learn this code and how to do these things directly, you can not understand how helpful you have been. Im not blowing smoke up your ass, i am just very appreciative of your help.
what i am worried about is it seems to run the program and reboot the pc quicker than it takes me to copy the files from the memory stick to the local machine,
for example, it takes 10 seconds for the script …
Hi C~
Have went over the above text again and compiled a step by step of what i need the script to do.
run gpedit.msc then close gpedit immedietly.
delete the default user folder in "c:\documents and settings\"
delete the gpedit folder in "c:windows\system32\"
Copy over the "all users" folder from the mem key to "c:\documents and settings"
Copy the "default user" folder from my "memory stick" to the "c:\documents and settings\" folder (bearing in mind the drive letter will change as it is removable, however the location on the folder it is copying will always be in the same directory as the script its self on the memory stick.)
Copy the "gpedit" folder from the memory stick into the "C:\windows\system32\" folder (bearing in mind the drive letter will change as it is removable, however the location on the folder it is copying will always be in the same directory as the script its self on the memory stick.)
copy a "boot.ini" file to "c:\" from the root of my mem stick. (or if this is at all possible, to be able to change the attributes of the pc's boot.ini by making it not read only, them opening the document in notepad and changing all instances of the number 3 to the number 1) WOW :eek: i wouldnt know where to begin. That would be amazing if that was at all possible.
Then
create 3 NEW folders on …
Personally, I'd go after building something like this with a tool like full-fledged VB (instead of vbscript), as VB gives you better control, and would simplify some of the tasks at hand. I believe It can, however, be done in VBS....
1) I don't know if gpedit.msc goes through any kind of a setup process, window, or anything like that, since I'm on XP home (home doesn't have gpedit). So, I need to know if there is a window that comes up, and if it requires any button presses or anything like that.
2) What do you mean by: the default user folder in c:\documents and settings? Is this actually a folder called "default user" or are you refering to the "currently logged in" user?
3) is the "default user" folder that is on your memory drive on the root, and is it called "default user"?
4) is the "gpedit" folder that in on your memory drive on the root?
5) is boot.ini on the root of your memory drive?
thanks for the response, ill answer your questions.
1 - For the gpedit i just need to run it once as windows will then create the gpedit folder, when it runs a window opens then all i need to do is immedietly close it. I run it simply to allow windows to create the folder.
2 - The default user is a actual folder in the "c:\documents and settings\" directory on windows xp home and prof. You just …
Hi,
i am currently wanting to create a VBS script that will do the following in this order:
run gpedit.msc then close
delete the default user folder in "c:\documents and settings"
delete the gpedit folder in "c:windows\system32"
copy the "default user" folder from my "memory stick" to the "documents and settings" folder (bearing in mind the drive letter will change as it is removable, however the location on the folder it is copying will always be in the same directory as the script its self on the memory stick.)
copy the "gpedit" folder from the memory stick into the "C:\windows\system32\" folder (bearing in mind the drive letter will change as it is removable, however the location on the folder it is copying will always be in the same directory as the script its self on the memory stick.)
copy a "boot.ini" file to the "c:\ directory"
if anyone has any lines of code i could use to create this or is willing to help i would be most appreciative
Thanks in advance
Elise
Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me if there is a variable for .vbs files that will allow the code to find the llogged on user?
Ill explain a little better...
I have a code that copys files and folders to a network drive, however it only works when i am logged on due to this piece of the code:
src = "C:\documents and settings\me\Favorites
dest = "z:\"
This code only works when "me" is logged on and i was wondering if there was a variable i could add in there that would look for the logged on username and insert that...
For example a .bat file or a .com file to do the same task has a variable of %USERNAME% or %USERPROFILE%... that allows the code to go to the folder of the logged on user.... so does anyone know if ther is a variabel i could put into the line of code in my .vbs file to allow it to do the same?
if you could post a slice of code that will do this or point me to a resource i can learn from id be most appreciative.
Cheers and thanks in advance...
