I am using Symantec AV Corporate eversince. Its so easy to manage and it updates itself automatically. But in your case, you're looking for freeware, try Kaspersky and Avast.. Goodluck!

Please try to download autoruns <http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx> and disable all unnecessary startup programs. Most important, delete all the programs/add-ons under Internet Explorer tab. Goodluck!
