I think it has been said here numerous times, but the module graphics.py is a subset wrapper for Tkinter from a older book. Not too many folks use it, so help will be difficult to get.

I have watched Star Trek "The Motion Picture" a few times. There the living thing is the spaceship itself, hard to miss since it is about the size of Texas. Interesting concept. Something like this might be possible.

That movie kind of blows your mind! Brings up the thought that the visitor really does not have to be our size or shape. Life could be nano size or the size of Texas.

Ene Uran 638 Posting Virtuoso

Google said so...

A beautiful come back! You are showing the witty side of yourself there JW.

I have friends that work at MS, and they claim that they already have a great search engine in house. Looks like Yahoo might just be market share.

Ene Uran 638 Posting Virtuoso

I have had all sorts of boyfriends, but the ones I really like are creative types like musicians (composers), writers, poets, painters (no house painters please), as long as they have a little humor and wit, and are no sourpusses or malcontents.

My recommendation to JB, girls like to be wooed, look (not stare) at them, smile at them, wave at them, talk to them politely, laugh with them, give them flowers or just one flower. Simple stuff like that will do wonders.

A word of caution, girls can break your heart, but it is just temporary.

I was told this forum was global, but I will ask the question anyway. This Sunday is Superbowl Sunday, when at least in the USA and countries that have US Military bases millions of sports watchers will be glued to the TV to watch the final glorious football game of the season. The sports involved is often overhshadowed by the very good commercials.

I will be watching, cheering and drinking with my friends.

I was just having fun dude. Oh well, if you do not like this one, I wouldn't mind. I'm sorry if this one's kinda annoying. :(

No harm intended, just being facetious as usual.

Yahoo is a little like Microsoft, always trailing behind in technology. Look what others have and copy or buy it.

Looks like you can see into the future Z! Maybe someone at MS read your post and made Yahoo an offer!

Ah, but I think you've lost the point. If I understand correctly, this and other "lounge" threads are not for work--they're for relaxation and enjoyment and for a pleasant interaction between the members of the forum. If the conversations here are cause for conflict, they might best be kept to ourselves and not made public. After all, there is an option to send direct communications without putting them in the public eye.
There are plenty of other threads on DaniWeb appropriate for work--I think your stress would be welcome on them.

emesch, sorry I have to disagree. A lounge like this is there to brainstorm, iron out problems, discus topics (hot and otherwise), learn from others, and relax (laugh, gossip, yawn). If topic pertains to work, so be it. We are supposed to keep it pleasant by edict of the host, not boring.

If I want boring, I turn on the TV. I laugh at the overblown news and other monkey stuff, now that makes me unstress.

It seems to find the module VisionEgg, but not the method/attribute start_default_logging()
Are you sure there is such a thing, and is it spelled correctly. Also, do you have to create an instance of class VisionEgg to make this work?

Sorry I am using 'wonderful' Windows Vista and shied away from using the huge Eclipse IDE.

Sorry, I don't have Linux so I can't test it out, but try to build your command string before using it as an argument:

val="/usr1/test/hello/ "

command_str = 'ls -lrt $%s | grep "LATEST" | cut -d ">" -f2 | tr -d " "' % val

# test it
print command_str

my output -->
ls -lrt $/usr1/test/hello/  | grep "LATEST" | cut -d ">" -f2 | tr -d " "
"""

#date1 = commands.getoutput(command_str)

Not sure if you need the $

Carl's Burgers is a nice place, do they have them in Florida? I thought they were only out West.

I like this prayer:

Our Google which art in cyberspace,
Hallowed be thy domain.
Thy search to come,
Thy results be done,
On my computer as it is in the WWW.
Give us this search our daily results.
Forgive us our spam, as those that have
spammed up against us.
And lead us not into infected sites,
But deliver us from Trojans.
For thine search engine is the greatest,

and the glory,
For search after search.

Some funny stuff from Henny Youngman (may he rest in peace):

A doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn't pay his bill, so he gave him another six months.

Do you know what it means to come home at night to a woman who'll give you a little love, a little affection, a little tenderness? It means you're in the wrong house, that's what it means.

How to drive a guy crazy: send him a telegram and on the top put 'page 2.'

I know a man who doesn't pay to have his trash taken out. How does he get rid of his trash? He gift wraps it, and puts in into an unlocked car.

It's basically minced meat, potato and cheese. But you can really put anything in it. It's delicious, alright. It's like omelettes in that no matter how much you put into it it always tastes really good. I think it's the same as cottage pie, but maybe there are small differences.

An example for how to search a dictionary with key: value pairs for both the value and the key:

# search a dictionary for key or value

def find_key(dic, val):
    """return the key of dictionary dic given the value"""
    return [k for k, v in symbol_dic.iteritems() if v == val][0]

def find_value(dic, key):
    """return the value of dictionary dic given the key"""
    return dic[key]

# test it out
if __name__ == '__main__':
    # dictionary of chemical symbols
    symbol_dic = {
    'C': 'carbon',
    'H': 'hydrogen',
    'N': 'nitrogen',
    'Li': 'lithium',
    'Be': 'beryllium',
    'B': 'boron'
    }

    print find_key(symbol_dic, 'boron')  # B
    print find_value(symbol_dic, 'B')    # boron
Ene Uran 638 Posting Virtuoso

There is no simple dictionary function build in, since values may not be unique, but you can use this:

# search a dictionary for key or value

def find_key(dic, val):
    """return the key of dictionary dic given the value"""
    return [k for k, v in symbol_dic.iteritems() if v == val][0]

def find_value(dic, key):
    """return the value of dictionary dic associated with a given key"""
    return dic[key]

# test it out
if __name__ == '__main__':
    # dictionary of chemical symbols
    symbol_dic = {
    'C': 'carbon',
    'H': 'hydrogen',
    'N': 'nitrogen',
    'Li': 'lithium',
    'Be': 'beryllium',
    'B': 'boron'
    }

    print find_key(symbol_dic, 'boron')  # B
    print find_value(symbol_dic, 'B')    # boron

I used functions for both searches naming them so it's easier to read.

Another suggestion would be not to use the IDLE IDE but something like the popular DrPython IDE (needs wxPython) or the PyScripter IDE.

I agree, IDLE is a leftover from the early days of Python and is still in the Python distribution. It has some issues with some of the Vista settings, even though on my Vista computer I got it to work once or twice after many initial problems.

To me the DrPython IDE has always been the most stable.
