Have you learned about classes and inheritance yet? Based on the context/phrasing of the question, I can see where that could be some sort of bastardized term used to refer to polymorphism as well.

Never heard of it. In what context did you read it?

my teacher said " Do you think cross-typing is useful to a programmer? Why or why not? Describe, using examples, some of the potential pros and cons that are associated with cross-typing." but i have no clue where it is in the book. i looked in the index and glossary of my beginning c++ book

Your teacher made up that term. You should ask him what it means.
