Hi, I want to start learning OpenGL. I have searched for some tutorials and here is what I have done:

1. I downloaded the latest version of GLUT
2. I put the DLLs in C:\Windows\System32
3. I put the libs in C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW\lib
4. Put glut.h in C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW\include
5. Open Code::Blocks -> new GLUT project -> Settings/Compiler and Debugger/Linker settings
6. Added C:\Program Files (x86)\CodeBlocks\MinGW\lib\glut32.lib
7. Ran this code:

/*
 * GLUT Shapes Demo
 *
 * Written by Nigel Stewart November 2003
 *
 * This program is test harness for the sphere, cone
 * and torus shapes in GLUT.
 *
 * Spinning wireframe and smooth shaded shapes are
 * displayed until the ESC or q key is pressed. The
 * number of geometry stacks and slices can be adjusted
 * using the + and - keys.
 */

And I got 76 errors about undefined references.

Did you put the glut.h in the "GL" sub-folder of the "include" folder?

undefined reference indicates that the compilation is fine, but the linking is not. Check which libraries you need to link against. Linking just against glut32.lib is not enough.

Normally you'd need opengl32 , glu32 , and glut32 .

I don't have opengl32.lib. I tried linking glut.lib and glut32.lib but it still didn't work.

GLUT does not itself give you the openGl libraries. opengl32.lib is provided by Microsoft. Search your hard drive for it.

Ok I've linked glu32, glut32 and opengl32, and I still get 76 errors.

Are they still undefined reference errors? Dig out from the error the first function it cannot find and then figure out which library is meant to provide it.
