I am in the beginning of a new project. I need to be able to present a list of records on an .aspx page. (This isn't a problem.) and when the "details" link is clicked it woudl show the full record etc. (again, not a problem)

Problem? I need the record detail to be shown as a PDF not a web page. I have seen this done tons of time but I have no idea where to start? What is this process called? How would you recommend I search?

BTW, SSL encryption is required and security is to be tight if that makes any difference.

use reports and set the document type of report as pdf

Really? It's that easy? It's setup in ASP.net (aka Visual Studio?)
