The portable version of Python (versions 2.7 and 3.2 are available) can be run from your hard drive or a flash drive. In many ways this makes your live easier, since a lot of libraries are included already. Also, you can take your code to a friend on a flash drive and show it off. However, it is for Windows machines only! Portable Python 2.7.3.1 from: http://www.portablepython.com/wiki/PortablePython2.7.3.1 This package contains following applications/libraries: PyScripter v2.5.3 NymPy 1.6.1 SciPy 0.10.1 Matplotlib 1.1.0 PyWin32 216 Django 1.4 PIL 1.1.7 Py2Exe 0.6.9 wxPython 2.9.3.1 NetworkX 1.6 Lxml 2.3 PySerial 2.5 PyODBC 3.0.2 PyGame 1.9.1 …

Hi everyone. First time poster here :) I'm working on my final project for a computing course at university, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a portable library or solution to changing console colours. I understand that such functions are OS specific (I'm working on Win32, but my prof is a Mac-grrl) and thus likely a giant headache for someone of my limited experience... but hey, it would be nice to try for bonus points. Just curious. TYIA.

Looks, I am often told, can be deceptive. This is certainly the case as far as the Microsoft Arc mouse and the new Arc Touch mouse are concerned. Sure, at first glance there is not much different about the two in terms of that innovative arcing design; but look closer, and more importantly pick the Arc Touch up and start using it, for the differences to become clear. In other words, the form may be broadly the same but the function has moved on.There's the transformational function for a start, which no longer folds up into a mouse-sized clamshell but …

Hello, I am looking for a means of database interaction in which the database will be stored on a user's machine but with no actual server software running. I have read there is some way to create databases in SQL express and then take the files for use in your application but I can't seem to find any articles on it; could someone try to point me in the right direction or contribute any information you think may be of use? Thanks

Hello Apart from portableapps.com, are there other websites which can allow the creation of a portable application installer, like allow me to add googlechrome, firefox, openoffice etc to a single installer, but given a list to choose from, instead of predefined lists like on portableapps.com site?

Google announced that they will soon launch their answer to the Apple iPad; The Android-based Google gPad. I'm going to wait for it. Sure there are other Linux-based pads available or in the works but I want the gPad or GooglePad or whatever the heck they call it by launch time. I foresee it in the $300 to $400 US range so that it's affordable and ready to serve. Are you waiting for it as well? I want a "pad" computer, an electronic clipboard or however you want to think of one of those little slabs of electronic crack. I …

Code portability basically refers to making source code able to compile on different platform without making any changes in source code. While coding its very important to keep portability in mind. The best way to introduce code portability is while coding.Keeping certain things into account we can achieve code portability with lesser effort, which we will discuss in this post. There are certain tools too which detect portability problems on source code, its a post processing of code and requires extra effort. Non-portable code introduces problems like maintenance of different versions, reduces readability, reduces understanding of code etc... Efforts needs to make …

It's just small enough to fit into your pocket, uses a specially developed high-tech gel and vibrates like crazy. But this latest must have addition to the iPhone accessories cupboard is no sex toy: this is the Kitsound X5 Surface Speaker, and oh boy does it pack a satisfying punch. The trouble with most portable speakers is they are either not actually portable, as in not pocket-sized unless you happen to be wearing a pair of MC Hammer trousers, or not actually any good. We've all heard the idiots on the beach or in the park with their tinny little …

Asustek Computer on Saturday unveiled the Eee PC 900, a beefier version of the ultra-mobile PC it introduced late last year. The new unit is available with Xandros Linux or Windows XP, and is scheduled to begin shipping on May 12 with a sticker price of US$549. Last year’s model 701—which at the time was offered only with Linux—could reportedly be had for $199, but is offered everywhere I’ve seen it for $399 or more. Both models are built around a 900 MHz Intel Celeron M processor and include a 4GB solid-state disk, three USB 2.0 ports and a VGA …

The drum beat has already started for next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where you won't be able to swing a dead rotary dial phone without hitting a slick sales type breathing the word "wireless" into your ear. Elena Malykhina, writing in Information Week this morning, advises show goers to "look for mobile TVs, wearable computing devices, portable media players, wireless in-vehicle technology, next-generation networking equipment, and much more." CES is historically a big coming out party for new technologies and this year should be no different. Information Week reports that CES will have more than 2,700 exhibitors …
