Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't been around lately. I've had a crazy amount of brain fog lately and I've had a hard time concentrating everytime I look at the screen.

I hope that clears up soon for you. Meanwhile, some of us have been dealing with snow, ice, and frigid temps, so some of us haven't been around much either.

We've been getting down to -39 (colder with wind chill). As a result, more time inside, thus more time online. At least we aren't getting the snow and ice plaguing other parts of the country and down south. Sorry to hear about the brain fog. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Good Lord! We're going down to 0 tonight and -2 tomorrow. Can't imagine -39. Of course you are 9 hours Northwest of me by plane, 21 hours by car. I've never been to that part of Canada. I'm sure it's beautiful, if cold. Seems rather flat compared to here in the Mountain State of West Virginia (we do have some flat areas). Hope you burn wood... always nice and cozy if a bit smelly. Wish you both well.

Thanks for the check in. We all care and were a little worried. Feel better.

It's a dry cold"

LOL Exactly what I was thinking having coffee this morning watching the good people at Santa Claus Village, Rovaniemi, FI, where it's currently -15 F, "it must be a dry cold."

-39 F, that's just crazy.

I don’t know what you people are talking about. It’s 70F here.

This was a much longer post before the profanity filter scrubbed it :-)

Seriously, enjoy your perpetual summer. I just want it to "warm" up to -15 to -10 C so we can get back out skiing. Thats around 5-14 F for you people still using things like furlongs, rods, and fathoms.

I don't snow ski. Never have, and I'm too damn old to start now. Just sounds like a cold way to bust your ass at my age, not to mention recovery time, though it does look cool. It's 15 F here now, going down to 0 tonight. Not much happens here at those temps. I do like having 4 seasons, I just want one of them to be exceptionally short. Santa Clause Village is down to 27 C. You know what that is in F; I have to convert. The U.S. should have listened to Jimmy Carter (on many things).

Serious question: A lot of info I see about vehicles in frigid temps centers around the engine - insulating, idling, block heaters, etc. But how do the extremely low temperatures affect transmissions, differentials, wheel bearings?

In case it wasn't clear, X-country skiing only. At 72, down-hill is not an option. The last time I went down-hill skiing was in 1978. I spent four weeks in spinal traction followed by surgery to remove my L5-S1 disk. But I'm feeling much better now (anyone recognize the reference?)

The joke in Winnipeg is that we have only two seasons. Six months of winter followed by six months of road construction.

Seriously though, spring and fall are awesome, as are the summers when we aren't under a heat dome thanks to the fossil fuel industry.

commented: Heat dome? Here in the USA we have a wanna be $h1t king. The stench is so bad fewer visit us. +0

Someone said the weather is cold somewhere, but you’re saying it’s nice and warm where you are — 70°F (about 21°C). That’s a comfy temperature!
