After which, the individual in question will probably turn around, sue the institution for as much as s/he thinks s/he can get away with, and in our litigation-happy society, actually has a fair chance to make an unfair gain. And another question: How do you disprove discrimination charges when it's claimed you are discriminating against a single specific individual for some asinine reason or another?

Yea, I always found that weird too. Same with equal opportunity employers.. how can you prove that someone did not hire you because of discrimination?

speaking of discrimination, have you guys heard about supervisors monitoring employee computers? It's been talked about at my work place, as many employees are in hidden cubicles (they can see the boss before the boss can see their monitor).

It makes since to me, but I saw where laws would prevent this because of discrimination. For example, if a supervisor was monitoring someone's computer while they were on a 15 minute break and that person happened to be looking up ways to help treat cancer, then they could be fired so that they don't eat up insurance fees and no one would know that that was the reason.

It all seems legal to me if they make you sign a contract.. besides, there are so many ways that you could hide what you were doing anyway..

well we can... but the average everyday secretary probably couldn't.

Most of the software doesn't even let you know it's installed if you don't' want it to. We use a program called Remote Scope which has this ability.

The contract thing would work probably...

ah ic.. Well it depends exactly what the supervisors are monitoring.. Are they logging your internet history? Keylogging you? Or just generally monitoring what apps you open and such? Internet history can easily be deleted.. keyloggers are more difficult to bypass..

Thats why there are warnings.

At my college you have to sign an ICT agreement which basically says no hacking, no porn etc...

and when you logon the Windows and Linux MOTD says that the facilities are provided for work use only and all communications and activities will be monitored

ive not got a problem with that as ive got nothing to hide
