I’m doing some market research to better understand the real struggles businesses face with digital marketing. I’d love to hear directly from business owners, marketers, or anyone running online campaigns

It could be anything—ads not converting, struggling to create content, keeping up with algorithms, or even just finding the time to market your business properly.

Your insights will really help me (and others here) see what challenges are most common, and maybe we can share some solutions along the way.

Hello and thank you for asking :)

Welcome to DaniWeb! For me, it's frustration being at the whim of the algorithms. I'm a pretty regular reader of all the popular SEO blogs so I typically keep up with when a new algorithm update is expected to roll out and that sort of thing, but sometimes it's just infuriating when I think I've done everything right, and still I get dinged by a life-shattering amount of traffic, with no idea what to do to reverse it, or what I could be doing better.

(BTW, if you were unaware, DaniWeb used to be one of the top 1,000 most popular sites in the world, until we were hit by Google algorithm after Google algorithm after Google algorithm, and have become quite a shell of our former self. Then I got sick with cancer, and it's just been downhill from there.)

Honestly for me the biggest struggle is just keeping up with it all. Between running the actual business and then trying to stay consistent with content, ads, and whatever new thing the algorithms want, it feels like a full-time job on its own. Sometimes the ads do fine, other times it feels like throwing money into the wind. It’s less about not knowing what to do and more about not having the time or energy to do it properly all the time.

Honestly, the hardest part for me as a digital marketing freelancer in Dubai is keeping things steady when everything online keeps changing.

One week a campaign is bringing in great leads, the next week an algorithm update or a shift in audience behavior can make those same ads fall flat. It feels like just when you figure out what works, the rules change again.

I’ve learned to deal with it by watching the numbers every day, testing small tweaks instead of big risky moves, and never relying on just one platform. But yeah—staying consistent in a space that never stops moving is definitely the biggest challenge.

Incidentally, you can get a simple list of all announced Google algorithm updates here. Sites like Search Engine Watch have more comprehensive information about each update.

I feel like one of the biggest mistakes I've made in the past was spending so much money on PPC ads instead of putting that money into building PR that could create more longterm, steady traffic.

Do you find it just a challenge, or do you find working in such a fast-paced industry exciting or motivating as well?

As a digital marketer, I see many businesses struggle with the same issues—ads that don’t convert, SEO feeling too complex, and the constant challenge of creating consistent content. A lot of entrepreneurs also tell me they simply don’t have the time to manage digital campaigns properly while running their business.

That’s where working with experienced SEO experts or a skilled digital marketer can make a difference. The key isn’t trying to do everything at once, but focusing on the right channels, tracking results, and staying consistent. With a clear strategy and some expert guidance, digital marketing becomes much less overwhelming and far more effective.

Marketers frequently report that maintaining steady traffic and conversions is their most challenging task in online marketing, despite algorithm changes, rising competition, and changing audience behavior. There is no guarantee that campaigns that work today will perform tomorrow, which makes it difficult for results to be sustained. Achieving measurable ROI while balancing SEO, paid ads, social media, and content can be challenging. Creating consistency requires constant testing, adaptation, and the right tools - without these, achieving predictable online marketing success is very difficult.

honestlyfor me it is keeping up with all the platforms and algorithms. one week a strategy works, next week something changes and it feels like starting over. also creating consistent content that actually engages people is a huge struggle.

Honestly, most businesses I know are stuck on creating content that actually gets noticed, and staying on top of all the social media changes. It's a constant challenge!
