I wanna use my PC's DVD Drive for an external DVD drive on my Laptop - how can I make this happen?

I do not have any money right now to use conventional methods. My laptop's DVD is no longer working; that's why I need to find a CD/DVD source. I wanna keep my PC's intact if possible. I can not get my Linksys BEFW11S4 to set up at all; it won't see my laptop. I was attempting to use a simple USB connecter between the two connections...

Laptop: Toshiba Qosmio G25-AV513 running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, SP3
PC to be connected: Gateway ELP 500C - SN = GTW0025710393

Please help me!!! ASAP
