Hey guys, maybe you can help me. My friend gave me his dead laptop. I want to salvage the dvd-rw drive by using it as an external on my notebook.

This is the drives info from hp's website:
DVD+-R/RW optical drive - 8X speed, Super Multi dual format, double layer, 12.7mm, parallel ATA (Presario)

So I naturally began searching for an ATA to USB converter on NewEgg. Only thing is, when I look at the product pictures on NewEgg, the ATA ends don't look like they would fit this dvd-drive.

I took some photos with my phone, I know they're not great:

Does it look like a standard ATA end would fit in there? Any insight is appreciated.

That almost looks like a unique to HP connector for hot (almost) swapping drives.
