My screen turned black, checked cables, connections and finally connected the monitor to my spare desktop to see if the monitor will work with my spare computer, but it did not and remained black. Is there anything I can do to repair the monitor or should I replace it with a new one?

Did you check thoroughly to see whether there are not any loose cables. If you can get a spare monitor and not a spare desktop.
