After being on the web for a few minutes, my internet slows down to a crawl. Most of the time, websites I'm trying to visit will timeout and not connect at all.

I'd appreciate any advice on this matter!

I do not have a log from ESET. I ran a full scan and it found nothing.

How are you connected to the internet? You have an awful lot of programs running in the background and a lot of unnecessary auto starts too. I see you are running Norton 360. Norton programs, while very good usually, can slow the computer. Is the computer only slow when online?

Hi, I see no visible signs of infection in your log.
However, I would like to remind you that you have Viewpoint installed on your computer.
Viewpoint is not recommended to be used anymore, therefore I urge you to uninstall it from your computer.
Please go to Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel and Uninstall Viewpoint.

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*Then click the Empty Selected button.

After doing the above, please post a new DSS scan result.

The computer is pretty fast otherwise. The problems with the internet have only started in the last week or so. I usually don't have any problems.

But, feel free to let me know what programs to disable and I will do it!

I don't see any signs of infection but you do have a large number of unnecessary programs running. Also I ask again, how are you connected to the internet?

I'm connected through a cable modem.

Hi,
As above, no obvious infection in your DSS log.
Please reopen HijackThis and place a check on the following :

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

Close all windows except HijacKThis and click on, Fix Checked.

You need to update the Java version in
your computer :

  • Click on Start and then go to "Settings" and select "Control Panel" and double click on "Add or Remove Programs".
  • Please wait for the list of installed programs to get populated and search for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment...).
  • Select them one by one, and click on, "Uninstall".
  • Please download and install the latest version of Java from here
