Hey guys. Hope you can help me out. I consider my self somewhat illiterate when it comes to anything more than searching the internet. Since this morning I have been getting this DNS error page with something about dr.webhostservices in the address line. I have followed many of the instructions you have given others without success. I downloaded HJT and I am including a copy of the log file. I have used HJT to fix the ones I thought were problems, 3 times now and they keep returning. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Go to Add/Remove Progams in your Control Panel and remove (if found):

Reboot into Safe Mode

Go to
C:\WINDOWS and delete olehelp.exe
C:\WINDOWS and delete msopt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32 and delete ndllzxy.exe
C:\Windows\System32 and delete wsaupdater.exe
C:\Program Files and delete the WindowsSA folder

Reboot normally, close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.

Thanks for your response. I have done all the things listed in your reply. I also have a confession. Yesterday in desperation, after I ran the HJT log I deleted all the things it located. I thought I could surely start from scratch again. Adaware located 1707 problems and eliminated them. Spybot found 44 and has eliminated all but 2 which it said it would eliminate on restart, I have restarted and ran it twice and they are still there. CW Shredder did not locate anything. I can check my hotmail account and a very few websites, my email account through my local ISP is unavailable now. I have a cable modem. Below is my new HJT log file, which seems rather short now.

Thanks
Ray

Another bit of info, I share this computer with someone else and I did not think to run HJT on his. Below is a copy of his log filetoo.

Thanks
Ray

Hey there thanks for your reply. Perhaps we need to start from scratch. Let me update you on events. Yesterday in desperation after my posting, I deleted all things HJT found. I thought it would be much easier to start over. I now get a Page cannot be displayed page. The dr.webservicehosts thing no longer shows up. I have also received some tutoring from another techie. I downloaded and ran CW Shredder, Ad-aware, and spy bot S&D. Adaware found 1707 problems, CW shredder none, and spybot 44. All problems were eliminated except two (n-CASE) which spybot has been unable to eliminate. I share my computer with another guy. I ran spybot on his files and found many more and eliminated them except for two (n-CASE). I ran HJT on his files and below you will find copies of both our log files. I have also done the things you mentionedwith removal of Windows SA, msopt.dll, and wsaupdater.exe

Thanks for your time,
Ray

That should bring back most of your stuff. Then post a new log. Then we'll go looking for the two Spybot couldn't delete.

basically the above stuff is what should be on your system. A few of them aren't essential, but... it gets your machine back anyway.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but where is the view back up button
Ray

Just do a system restore to a time before you started fixing things, then post a log after.

Hey Crunchie - these merged threads are kinda confusing... ;)
'View backup list' should be on the first screen of hijackthis, or as Crunchie said you can do a system restore.

Hey Crunchie - these merged threads are kinda confusing... ;)

Only the fault of ppl who double post :).

Thanks guys, everything seems to be working now.
