Hi Professionals,

I am facing a weird problem all of the sudden !! whenever I give a web address which gives "address is invalid", Internet Explorer can not display the webpage. I got a problem in IE7, then upgraded to 8. even though still seeing the same issue. Tried with all other browsers FF and Opera. No luck.

Gone through some other threads at DaniWeb, tried to remove with the help of hijackthis, still no luck.

Here is my hijackthis log:

And what happens if you put this into the address bar directly [it is yahoo.com]
69.147.114.224
Does http:// get immediately placed in front of it? And does Yahoo then load?
There is nothing wrong in your log. Those two orphaned no-file entries, O2 & O3, are related to Symantec.
Temporarily, to enable the following fix to proceeed...
=Windows Defender - please disable its Realtime Protection....
Open Windows Defender, click Tools, General Settings, Scroll to and uncheck Turn on real-time protection.
Click Save and close Windows Defender.
==Please copy the text in the box to a notepad [format/wordwrap unchecked] and save as fixkey.reg to your desktop; dclick it to run... agree; if it opens in notepad instead rclick the icon [file], choose Open with, Registry editor....

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{602ADB0E-4AFF-4217-8AA1-95DAC4DFA408}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\{7FEBEFE3-6B19-4349-98D2-FFB09D4B49CA}]

And turn on Defender.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your response.

Yes, when I tried with "yahoo.com", the address bar is changing to http://// and body of the page is displaying The address is not valid.
The page never gets loaded.

I tried the approach you mentioned but still no luck.

Is there any other options..please help

-Thanks,
Sreehari

But, Yahoo Messenger, Google talk all are getting connected.
All browsers are stopped working...

Nothing wrong with this entry:
[B]NCO 2.0 IE BHO[/B]>Norton Confidential" online identity theft protection, now incorporated into other Norton products

You might try this fix I found at another forum:
Control Panel>Network & Internet>Internet Options>Advanced>,security settings
UNCHECK
these 3 boxes:

  • check for publisher's certificate revocations
  • check for server certificate revocations
  • enable intergrated Windows authentication

Thanks for your suggestion and help. I really appreciate.

I did but still no luck. I started getting this on IE7. Then I upgraded to IE8 to see problem solved. but no where I am in near to solution.

-Sreehari

Did you load this into the IE [any browser...] Address line?
69.147.114.224 -This is what I wanted you to load, not "yahoo.com"

Yes. I tried getting the messsage "Internet explorer can not display the webpage".

all website ip addresses are able to ping.
I appreciate your help.
-Sreehari
T

Right, you can ping sites but the browsers will not load them. That means that some of the dll files that explorer uses need re-registering. Other browsers may use some of those files also - they form a common library.
Try this:
Go Start / Run, enter regsvr32 urlmon.dll
-if that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running the following additional entries [paste in this complete line]:

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll Msjava.dll Actxprxy.dll Oleaut32.dll Mshtml.dll Browseui.dll

Hi, First I should say thank you very much.

1) First I gave regsvr32 urlmon.dll - Does not solve the problem. Then I go the following complete line
2) regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll Msjava.dll Actxprxy.dll Oleaut32.dll Mshtml.dll Browseui.dll

While loading this I got some error
The module Shdocvw.dll was loaded but entry point DllRegisterServer was not found

The module MsJava.dll failed to load.

Is those were the reason probelm still there?

-Sreehari

I'm sorry, I should have removed shdocvw.dll from that list [but no harm done]... because you are using Vista you should use the [manual] reset method covered in this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737/en-us

Hey, I did this before posting into this forum.

Is IE uninstall and re install would help? not sure how to uninstall IE from Vista basic?

Hey, I did this before posting into this forum.

Is IE uninstall and re install would help? not sure how to uninstall IE from Vista basic?

You cannot Uninstall IE, it is part of the operating system and will not uninstall. I believe you can roll back IE8 to IE7
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, go to Control Panel, and click on Uninstall Programs link or Programs and Features icon. Then on Tasks pane on the left, click on View installed updates link. Locate and select Windows Internet Explorer 8 in the list of installed updates, and then click on Uninstall button. Click on Yes when asked that are you sure want to uninstall the update.

Also try starting IE WITHOUT Add-ins:
Click the Start button button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

Reset Internet Explorer settings

If disabling add-ons doesn't solve the problem, try resetting Internet Explorer back to its default settings. This removes all changes that have been made to Internet Explorer since it was installed, but it does not delete your favorites or feeds.

1. Close all Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows.
2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Internet Explorer.
3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
5. Click Reset.
6. When you are done, click Close, and then click OK.
7. Close Internet Explorer and reopen it for the changes to take effect.

Your error of

The module MsJava.dll failed to load.

is because your Java is woefully out of date. You are running version 1.5 and current version is version 6 update 13.
Go HERE
Download Offline install and save it to the desktop.
Then go to Add/Remove and Uninstall ALL old versions of java you find there. Once the uninstall is complete then double click that install file on the desktop to install the new version.

Also try starting IE WITHOUT Add-ins:
Click the Start button button, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

I note that some of the dll files used by IE7 & 8 no longer require registering, simply loading suffices, therefore they no longer have register entry points, hence the above error.
You can repair ["reinstall"] IE by using the .inf file. I do not use IE unless forced to, so have not bothered with IE8. But the procedure for repairing IE8 is probably quite similar to that of IE6.
Rclick C:\WINDOWS\inf\ie.inf, [or go Start, run, and enter:
%windir%/inf -and locate ie.inf in that window....].
Check that it is the correct inf file for IE8... Properties?
... and then click Install. But you will require the IE8 files to be somewhere handy.

My problem still not solved. Planning to restore the system with HP recovery manager. Its my HP laptop.

-Hari

hari, one reason your problem is not solved is you have not posted back here in 6 weeks. There is no way we can offer help if the poster fails to return in short order. Since 6 weeks have passed there is no way to know exactly what may be wrong with the computer now, or if any changes recommended have even been attempted.
This should be a lesson to all, if you ask for help stick with it. We are not mind readers and cannot offer other solutions or fixes to try unless the poster returns with the results of the last suggestions.

Hari, have you tried uninstalling [not just stopping] your firewall [if third party] and AV service, then reinstalling them?
