Hi!

I'm new to the community and would like some help with this Trojan. A few days ago I noticed my computor was running slow, not extremly slow, but it was noticable. So I did a ESET online scan and the WMA.Trojandownloader.getcodec.gen Trojan popped up twice. It quarantined the files for me but I would like to know how to completly get rid of it. Also my trial for Mcaffee has run out and I would like to know of a good Anti-Malware program for my computor. I am running Vista by the way

Thanks in advance

Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

==========

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Download the update from here if you have problems.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Make sure that you restart the computer.

===========

Download HijackThis Executable from here. Save it to your desktop.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and then go to the format Tab and make sure that wordwrap is unchecked. Copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Another question, is SUPERantispyware as good programe to have for Malware? My computer came with McAffee but I deleted it due to the trial version being over and hearing only bad things about it. So I'm just wondering if it can do the job. The only other sceruity programe I currently have is Windows Defender and I don't know what it protects, let alone how well it protects.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think you posted the entire SAS log.

Neither programs you are talking about are sufficient to replace McAfee, as they are not anti-virus programs.
They are both keepers, but only one should be running in the background at one time.
Avast, Avira or Comodo are my choice in free AV's, but not necessarily in that order :).

Do I have to re-do the whole scan? I dont know why it got cut off.

EDIT: I looked in the Statistcs/Logs section of SUPERAntiSpyware again and looked at the log myself and that's all it showed.

Ok. Just do the following and let me know if the problem still exists;

Download and Run ATF Cleaner
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program

I'll re-scan using SUPERAntiSpyWare and re-post the log. I don't know what's going on with the log

0

Nope! Re-scanned with ESET and everything looks to be running ok! Thanks a lot Crunchie :)

Just a quick question, which of the programes that I downloaded should I keep and which ones should I uninstall. I want to keep my computer as clutter-free as possible.

Thanks again!

Ok thank you! How to I properly uninstal HJT and SUPERAntiMalware?

0

Also what other steps can I take to un-clutter my compter (from what you can see in my HJT log)
