This startup error is almost always a leftover MyWebSearch toolbar entry: Windows is trying to run rundll32 against MWSBAR.DLL at logon but the DLL has been deleted or moved, so you get the “Error loading … MWSBAR.DLL” pop-up. ’s original report and the follow-ups from , and match the common MyWebSearch/run-key pattern seen in removal threads. (forums.majorgeeks.com)

Practical, safe steps (expands on ’s HijackThis/uninstall idea):

  • Make a restore point and back up the registry before changing anything (export the HKLM/HKCU branches you touch). Microsoft documents backing up/restoring the registry.
  • Try Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs for “My Web Search” (or similar). If uninstall fails with the DLL error, reinstalling the exact toolbar package and then using its built-in uninstall often restores the uninstaller so you can remove it cleanly.
  • Boot to Safe Mode (F8), delete the C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\ folder if present, then use a focused adware remover. For startup entries, use Autoruns (Sysinternals) to locate and remove the Run/toolbar entries that reference MWSBAR.DLL or MyWebSearch. (learn.microsoft.com)

After removal: run a dedicated adware sweep (for example Malwarebytes AdwCleaner) and a full antivirus scan to pick up any other PUPs and undo browser changes (home/search). AdwCleaner is designed specifically for toolbars and leftover startup items and is commonly recommended for this class of problem. Reboot and confirm the error is gone. (forums.malwarebytes.com)

If the desktop or Start menu is blocked (as some later posters described), run the tools from Safe Mode or from another admin account, or use a bootable rescue disc/USB to remove files and registry entries. Because this thread concerns Windows XP systems, note that XP is no longer supported by Microsoft and staying online with an unsupported OS raises security risks — consider upgrading after cleanup. Can you tell me how you corrected this problem

thanks

how did u get it fixed?

how did u get it fixed?

This message occurs when a "run key" still exists in the registry for an item that has been removed from your machine.

In this case, you would just "fix" it with HJT to remove the key from the registry.

If you still have Mywebsearch active, the first step would be to uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs.

Failing that, open the C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH folder and run the uninstaller manually. If no uninstaller exists, you could just delete the folder and clean registry remnants manually, to the extent desired - (most just remove the runkey and leave it at that).

Best :)

what is myweb search? I have the same problem as above, every time I turn on my pc in a few minutes it brings up the same message: error loading C:\PROGRA~1MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL. My pc has been so slow since a well meaning friend talked me into buying 4 more gigs of RAM, and never got the original problem with a message about a 32exe problem fixed. Now, my pc takes longer then 10 minutes to load up and be ready to go to the internet. I've restored half my hard drive disc space by deleting videos, documents and pics and putting them onto cd's. I downloaded pc tools for the free trial, and it found 2 medium alert trojan horses and over 900 problems with my pc. Then when asked if I wanted to fix the problems, it was no longer free, it just wasted my time, and it's not fixed yet. My AVG anti-virus doesn't and hasn't detected any virus'. My pc sped up by about 5 minutes. It is a bit better. But, I know it still has glitches, when programs, like Nero cause my pc to shut down when I'm still copying music to cd's to free up more space. What do you recommend I do at this point? I have no back up discs to format and reinstall as I was going to do to clean up the virus' and other pc problems.

error loading C:\PROGRA~1MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL keeps coming up and my pc won't let me interface with it! i can bring the start menu via the keyboard HotKey and the task manger but once they are up i can't use them. does anyone know how to fix this?
