Hello!

Very glad I found this place.

Here are my problems.

Yesterday when I tried to boot up, I had lost my wallpaper and I couldn't open any programs....When I click on "My Computer" I get an "explorer.exe has generated errors" error window.
Now, in safemode I can access everything except I can't send or receive mail.
I've ran ad-aware, spybot, CWShreder, I've done online virus scans, scanned for trojans and etc...and they all say nothing is there.
My free virus scanner AVG had said there was the virus "downloader.donn"

Can you please take a look at the HijackThis log and let me know what the heck may be going on.

I forgot to mention, I have installed all ms security updates...
I also updated explorer after this happend, thinking "that" would help...nada
It all seems far beyond what "I" know what to do now

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.98.2. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. Remove 1.97 from the folder it is in & replace it with 1.98.2.
.....................................................................
Edit:first unzip hijackthis to a folder of its own like c:\HJT\hijackthis.exe
..........................................................
Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

NOTE: Please copy and paste this post into notepad and save to you desktop. or print a copy of these instructions because you will be working with all windows closed except HijackThis.

Comcast (the cable folks who are replacing @home in some parts of the USA) have struck a deal with Tioga to provide an "enhanced" support and self-repairing tool. This is "beta" at present and was made available to download by mistake at present. Remove via Start -> Settings -> Add/Remove Programs......................

Now reboot into safe mode and delete the following files and folders if found ."Fix Checked"...Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files ,How to start computer in safe mode

C:\WINNT\system32\nssys32.exe.......delete file

to delete the above files and folder you will need to do the following
go to Show hidden files & folders
"Fix Checked"...Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files
How to start computer in safe mode
reboot computer and post a new log

Thanks very much...
I did what you said. I now have a new hjt log
It seems it's all my .exe files that do not open/function, as well as
my email and my ftp that wont work.
I can only surf and open folders in safemode...no .exe files

Here's the new log -

I had uninstalled AVG...then after I posted here I went back and downloaded it again. I ran it and it said I had 8 viruses (Mind you, the online scans I did and CWShreder, spybot and Ad-aware said I had none)
When I scanned with AVG and it said I had 8, this time it was able to remove them/fix/move them to the vault.

So, what the heck is the deal there? Ayi yi yi...

This is all driving me crazy!
I seem to remember having this happen once before along time ago. I wish I could remember what I did.

I'm almost ready to throw in the towel :-|

Let me correct one thing. I cannot get in using "safe mode" but I can get in using "restore mode".
I can also boot up...but cannot open folders (My Computer...etc...) error "Explorer has generated errors and will be closed by Windows" is the message I get...

Me no know either .
It would be ok to remove all 016's as the good ones get downloaded the next time you go to the site .

Go here for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Try this scan as well.

I have exported my exefile registry key that you can try to import to your registry if you wish. I have W2K SP4. Not sure if it will work or not. Double click to merge with your registry, then yes or ok. I see no reason that mine would be different to yours, so it may be worth it.
Make sure that you back-up your registry first!

Start\Run type in regedit. Go to *registry* & select export registry file. On the next window at bottom left choose *all* & export the registry to a location where you can find it :).
