Hi all,

I am not sure if this is the right place, but it seems like the best spot for my question. I am trying to setup CVS for one of our analysis codes and trying to distinguish the different versions by tags rather than revision number. As an example, I am trying to setup the initial version as V_2010-10-23 the next as V_2010-11-04, etc. and be able to call it by that name. I have yet to find anything online that really explains how to do this.

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Post the contents of your .cvsrc file here. From the Linux CVS man page:

-f

Do not read the ~/.cvsrc file. This option is most often used because of the non-orthogonality of the cvs
option set. For example, the cvs log option -N (turn off display of tag names) does not have a corresponding
option to turn the display on. So if you have -N in the ~/.cvsrc entry for log, you may need to use -f to
         show the tag names.
