My fan tends to run more than I think it should, yet its not excessively hot in the room, any ideas on this ?

Reset the desired fan profile in BIOS if you deem the fan is too active, and the core temps are safe [if there is that option].

As gerbil said ,plus ,because they are so compact laptop heatsinc and fans get dusty fast,therefor overheat quickly causing the fan to run more often,a simple 10$ can of compressed air and blow out the fan and heatsinc
