Whenever I open in Microsoft Word (2003 & 2007) a Courier document created in a Mac program that has italicised words in it, Word converts those words into italicised Courier-Oblique font which looks very odd and I have to highlight those words and change them back to plain italicised Courier. Is there a way to work around this in Word please?

Quick, reliable fix inside Word (2003/2007)

  • Open the document in Word and press Ctrl+H to open Replace.

  • With the Replace box active choose the desired Windows font (for example Courier New) and set Style to Italic.
  • Click Replace All to convert every occurrence to the intended italic face.

Other useful options and notes

  • Have the Mac user export as RTF or as an actual Word (.doc/.docx) from Pages/TextEdit to improve mapping before transfer. Choosing a cross-platform font (for example Courier New) on the Mac avoids the mismatch.
  • Embedding fonts (Office Button -> Word Options -> Save -> Embed fonts in the file in Word 2007; or Save As -> Tools -> Save Options -> Embed TrueType fonts in older Word) preserves exact faces but increases file size and depends on font licensing.
  • Installing the same Mac font on Windows will also prevent substitution, but check licensing before installing.

Using Styles instead of direct formatting and doing a one-time Replace as above will fix the document cleanly and prevent manual per-word edits.

not sure if this will make any difference ,but try this .open the file . got file in the top toolbar and go save as ,and change the "save as type" to a word doc.good luck
