I am having issues with openig up additional windows when I am surfing on the web. When I am on a web page and click on a link to go to another one....the screen comes up blank. I have ran spybot, spysweeper and adaware 6 and still have this issue. I ran hijackthis and I will list the following list but I am not sure which files to delete or even what I need to do next to fix this issue. Any halp would be appreciated.

Thanks

Quick, practical checklist that fills the gaps in the replies above and points to the most common causes.

The HijackThis log shows third‑party helpers and peer‑to‑peer/pop‑up programs running (StopZilla, BearShare/LimeWire etc.). Those often install BHOs or shell hooks that cause a new IE window to appear blank. First isolate the browser: disable third‑party extensions in Internet Options (Advanced), clear Temporary Internet Files and use the Programs tab’s Reset Web Settings. Also toggle the “Reuse windows for launching shortcuts” checkbox (Advanced) to force new windows. These steps frequently restore normal link behavior without deep changes. (enhanceie.com)

If links still open blank, check the URL protocol/file associations (HTM/HTML and URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol) in Explorer → Tools → Folder Options → File Types → Advanced/Edit. Make sure the browser command points to your iexplore.exe (with the -nohome switch if present), Use DDE is set, the Application is IExplore and the Topic is WWW_OpenURL. Broken or altered DDE/association entries are a classic cause and fixing them often restores “Open in new window.” (learn.microsoft.com)

If those steps fail, repair core system components and IE files: run System File Checker (sfc /scannow) from an elevated account (it may need the Windows install source), and consider using System Restore to a point before the problem. If you prefer to avoid system repair at first, temporarily uninstall or disable StopZilla and the P2P clients and retest — toolbars/BHOs are a frequent root cause. (learn.microsoft.com)

Follow ’s advice and run HijackThis from its own installed folder, then post the fresh log (don’t paste binary/truncated output). Before editing the registry or removing BHOs, make a System Restore point or export the keys you change. If a fresh HJT log still shows problems after the isolation steps above, post it and include which tests you ran and whether the blank window appears from Outlook/other apps as well.

I would get rid of this ones:

O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe

However I don't think they caused the problem. Try the following command:regsvr32 urlmon.dll

Also you can visit the following article:
It's not exactly related but it touches the same issue with different symptoms.

That log does not look comlete, it is missing the header...

Download hijackThis. Extract it to its own folder. Then run it and select. Do system scan and save log. Post the contents of the log that pops up.

We will then go from there...

This should also be moved to the virus/spyware section...thats where the logs go

I did that and displayed it above. Please help?

I am sorry to say this, but it needs to be done. HJT is running from a temporary folder, it is best to let it run from its own folder, as it allows it to create back-ups among other things.

Please download the self installing version here:

Then please post a new log

And yes you did post a log above, but, it was missing a few parts...

I also saw there STOPZilla which is a pop-up blocker. Maybe it's not functioning properly and that is why you can't open links

Try to uninstall it and see if that changes anything.

One more thing. I strongly advise you to use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer it's much more secure.

Download and run the free .
