This morning my hp laptop running windows 11 booted up however I had a blank screen. After restarting a few times, the desktop finally was displayed. However web pages open slowly or not at all. The same thing with opening apps on laptop. This laptop was running perfect up until today. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Update: My laptop seems to be back to normal. Any ideas as to what could have caused all of this?

Windows Defender Firewall is on. When I type in Windows Security and look under "Virus and Threat Protection", Avast is listed. Should I turn off the Firewall?

Time to remove Avast and go native with Defender.
At one point my father-in-law was running Avast plus one other "free" anti-virus package as well as Defender. It was a miracle he could run anything at all. I was getting frequent, "My computer is running really slow" phone calls.

I'm going to remove Avast. The other thing I notice with what a refer to as a "glitch" with this laptop, is that every site, email, etc. that I had previously logged into, would not allow me to sign in unless I had a code sent to email or text. This happened after the laptop had begun to run like it did before. Just seemed strange that I had to do this.

It sounds like there may have been a little Windows malfunction; occasionally, an update or a starting issue will make everything lag or load slowly. I'm glad things are back to normal! Checking for outstanding updates or looking at startup programs could be helpful if it occurs again.
Since it cleared up on its own, it was likely a temporary Windows issue or security software conflict.
Avast running alongside Defender can spike CPU and disk usage, which explains the blank screen, slow apps, and stalled pages. Updates or a failed background scan can trigger this suddenly. Removing Avast and sticking with Defender is usually the most stable setup on Windows 11.
The extra login codes were normal too. Many sites re-verify after system changes or crashes
