Actually

IQ=(mentalAge/physicalAge)*100

You don't really "come up" with it. IQ is a valid way to measure the worth a person quickly.
As are standardized tests.

The notion of a logic-driven society doesn't make any sense to me. I don't understand what you mean at all. Are decisions made... logically? From what premises are the logical reasonings made? It sounds to me like the only thing different from your idea of a right society from others' is that its logic is derived from the arbitrary axioms that you prefer, while others' are derived from different premises regarding righteousness. Would your society, by any chance, restrict mating to once every seven years?

If you break down all information into bits, there is clearly a "wrong way" and a "right way". In an ideal society
the "perfect" person would just be cloned over and over again to make up the whole society and brought up in exactly the same environment. In this way, war nor conflict would exist.

WTF? I have two instances of bad rep! And its all in the "why this scientists believes in god" thread. I think people should stop giving bad rep just because they disagree with you. What does the gray rep color mean?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

how do you tell if you get a negative rep anyway?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

lol....

but people have an IQ value associated to them. So by categorizing a person's IQ we are really just categorizing them.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Ok so, everyone is human here (or at least I hope so) flaming someone happens every so often. Most of this thread has not been a flame war.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

What gave you your unquestioned premise that society must be an algorithm, imposed on people, that is designed to optimize particular parameters?

Because in a world of complete logic (one that I hope will exist in the future) that is the only way.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

That is impossible. This question has been debated for thousands of years. How can we possibly cover everything with only 83 pages of posts?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Ok I am categorizing a person's IQ not the person.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

If we do not categorize people how can we do anything? How can a store determine its market audience without categorization? How can a government determine who they should help without categorization? How can a society function without categorization?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

And of course you believe in some kind of faith.
If you study for a test, you have 'faith' that you will make a good grade.

from the google definition of faith:

complete confidence in a person or plan

When I take a test I do not have complete confidence. I have do not complete confidence in anything. When I take a test I have near complete confidence that I will get a 'A'. Nothing is infallible, therefore I do not believe in faith.

The masses are people with an IQ of 100 +/- 10. The "masses" make up over 80% of society.

Stop categorizing people. Its the sickest thing one can do. And whats the big deal about IQ. In real life it doesn't prove anything. All the great people who were born were not measured by their IQ but their deeds.

Maybe 14 years of your life is not enough for you to be making such conclusions. Looking down on others would not get you far.

maybe I need to take my age off...

I am not saying that IQ means everything. I completely concur that you should be measured by your deeds and not your IQ. But you must understand that there is a strong positive correlation between IQ and how successful a person is. Therefore the EASIEST and FASTEST way to determine the masses is by IQ. Would you feel better if I categorized the masses as people who make $35,000?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I do not believe in faith. So basically you are saying that you believe in god because it makes you feel good and makes you have a sense of purpose? And that if it makes you feel better then its ok to believe it?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

aarrg! these 1 minute ago posts are getting annoying I have to edit alot.

Yes is absolutely is. Do you believe anything thats not proven? (except maybe God of course)

If I told you that I had some yogurt that made me invisible, would you believe me? No of course not!

Then why should I believe in the bible if 1) there is no evidence(none that you have shown me at least) and 2) it goes against the laws of physics.

O and sorry for the edit.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I said thats a solution NOW, not for the future. In the future human nature will be suppressed by society itself .

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Are you going to respond my post?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

God may exist because there is no concrete evidence otherwise. That's basic logic. Refute it.

Lets first make the following postulate:

Nothing exists until proven otherwise

Therefore god does not exist (unless of course you think there is sufficient evidence)

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

The masses are people with an IQ of 100 +/- 10. The "masses" make up over 80% of society.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Yes it will, we can already repress human nature with a cocktail of drugs and medication.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

And given that the government usually isn't a true pure democracy (where everyone [in theory] gets to decide things as a group), then eventually the subset of 'the masses' which makes up 'the government' will end up regulating others for the sheer sake of the power to do so, no matter what alternative motives they profess.

Your right, I meant oligarchy not democracy.

Human nature abuses power when given. That is why a communist society will only work when human nature has been fully and completely suppressed.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I think that communism is subtly taking control (look at my post in the poltical orientation thread for more information). Social Security, health care, medicare, civil rights movement, and the abolishment of slavery are all events that lead to communism/socialism. Think of how are society is different today then the industrious 19th century.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Your right, most people are going to be happy with communism. And its impossible to understand any other form of government is good for the society.(except perhaps socialism) And supporting the masses, since the
obviously make up the most people, should be any governments number one priority.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

aha.. you just don't understand. Go back and read through this thread if you want more evidence. It's all around you.. but you just can't handle the truth. Pot. Kettle. Black. [echo?]

Quoted by joshSCH
You've been a christian forever, and you can't imagine a world without your precious god.

Not entirely true. But obviously an assumption of a highly religious person.

Quoted by joshSCH
It is YOU who is in denial. YOU who does not understand. There is no god. There is nothing, but you want a god to exist. Your life depends on it.

I'm beginning to think you've got that backwards.

Quoted by joshSCH
And until you can open your mind and stop being so defensive.. I wont tell you all the facts and evidence that your brain just couldn't handle.. It's fine..

It seems to me that you are the one on the defensive at the moment because your brain cannot handle it.

Quoted by joshSCH
lol.. :D

If in fact you are not laughing out loud, try not to punctuate your own lack of depth.

Instead of refuting joshes comments (and I think there quite logical and well thought out) with insults and replies that have no intellectual value ot merit WHATSOEVER why don't refute it with logic? I understand that it is quite hard to defend your position through deductive and inductive reason when you are religious but how about trying?

Give me ONE reason why god exists and …

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I found a quote a while back from someone which rebutes that statement. I'll post it when I get a chance to look at it again.

Trotsky supported a democratic communist society.

Please also allow me to say that, in the course of human history, I can only think of one community that appears to have abided by the idealized socialistic point of view. (And it is my suspicion that they would not be acknowleged as 'legitimate' socialists.) Every other time it has occured, human nature has tended to cause the society to self-destruct.

Hopefully in the future, human nature will be completely repressed. As a civilization advances, the amount of human nature that influence the civilization also decreases. In this way, if a society gradually progresses into a socialist states and then into a communist state it will find itself, I believe, as a idealistic and perfect society. Of course this will take hundreds if not thousands of years assuming there is no setbacks (the medieval ages and the invention of the atomic bomb come to mind)

Every communist society seems to try to "force" ideas and propaganda on its citizens, much like religion. I believe that you cannot force ideas and propaganda onto people, they must come to accept and agree with the ideas instead. Take for example how the Soviet Union destroyed churches and other places of worship. The Soviet Union tried to "force" the change of a huge population. A better way would be …

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

tuh, communism.. essentially a great idea, but true communism never has existed, and never will.. The libertarian and anarchists have more hope than the communists =p

No communism is possible, but only far into the future. I believe communism is already slowly taking hold of the world (or at least socialism). Society today stinks heavily of communism/socialism compared to the early 1900's.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

hmm.. how are democrats, republicans, and capitalists different? This poll has both very general and very specific terms.. For example, the republicans, democrats, and capitalists are all basically the same; only very subtle differences compared to the rest of the options. Perhaps you should have left republicans and democrats out, and added apathetic.

lol, ok you have a point.

Sorry, Sturm, but from what I understand, Facism is just as much a totalitarian format as Communism is. Both of them would be leftward-marching from my pov.

communism does not have to be totalitarian by nature, it is quite possible to have a democratic communists society.(fascist are racists communists are not)

Does liking the labour party (main party in uk, left of the us democrats by a long way) mean i have to vote communist then?

Not necessarily, being a socialist would also fill that criteria.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

They are all the same, they just 'mesmerize the simple minded with propaganda that keeps us blinded'.

Is that a bad thing? Intellectuals are the ones that make the difference no t simpletons.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

har har.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I ok thanks, just for clarafication a democrat is like a socialist but not as extreme and a republican is a capitalist thats not that extreme either(even though alot of democrats and republicans are really communists/socialists and capitalists/fascists respectively, they just do not want to be labeled "radical") Oh and Im a communist.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

Actually for me, atheism (I am actually an anti-theist) doesn't require any faith whatsoever. This is because it is impossible for me to believe in god. As in I CANNOT do it. No matter how many people preach to me or try to convince me, I just cannot believe it. And what are the fallible sources you are talking about?

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

I am just wondering the political orientation of people and why they are that particular orientation.

Sturm 270 Veteran Poster

If companies give away all information then just how do you expect them to pay the programmers and other staff ??? Yes, I'd like to have Microsoft give away their operating systems and other products too, but if they did that they would have to fire most of their staff. Not very good sense.

I dont. Its not a matter of dislike or like but matter of morality. I believe that proprietary intellectual property is morally and empirically wrong. In fact, the only thing intellectual property rights are good for is hurting the society. When you hide code and ideas you are not contributing to the society, you are not expanding the knowledge base. Proprietary intellectual property is against progress, intellectualism, and the society in general.

Learning is the first step to knowledge, sharing, community.

As I a communist, I do not believe in private industry and other class distinction. Thats why I like linux, open source, the internet, forums, and etc. In daniweb, it doesn't matter how old you are, what race you are, or anything, except perhaps intellectual merit.
