well, you could take a look to the stickies @ the top of the forum's threads... there a re some about timesaving tips, books, and hints

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well... AFAIK, only web servers use this port, and AFAIK i am only using apache as a web server... i used to have wamp, but i uninstalled it long ago, even before apache started working...

the thing is, it was working fine days ago... but it suddenly stopped working...

i think it is because, as i am connected through a router, i have port 80 forwarded to address 192.168.1.100 in the routers configuration... and today i checked and my pc was connected in 192.168.1.105... so i changed it for it to be in *.100, but it still didn't work...

i even made my ip static, and it din't work that way...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

according to what ShawnCplus said, only IM abbreviations are allowed...

sorry... site's policies... :P

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well... i have my site being listening port 80... or being listened... i dunno what's the difference...

the thing is, i have it listening port 80 so my localhost is open to the internet...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well... those are pretty good arguments... :P

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i use Skype, though i don't use it for landline... just for outgoing calls...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

A while ago i had no problems with my server... but suddenly this message appeared when i tried t start apache services:

(OS 10048)only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted. :make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80 no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs

how the heck do i fix this?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

noticed something else...

if you answer a thread, go to the spy, click on another thread that appeared, say, 5 actions above yours, and you click on another thread, when you return to the spy, the 5 actions that were above your last activity will be gone... is that meant to be that way?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

stick around to this community... you should learn a lot from it... i myself trained my english and my programming abilities in here...

search this forum too for some information... there are lots of good posts... if you have any problem, just look for it in the forum search, chances are it has already been discussed...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

what would be the difference between having it as a bakground than as an image? wouldn't it be better?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

btw... just an idea...

is it necessary that subscribed answered threads dissapear at the bottom of the page like the rest?

what if it's a busy day @ daniweb and i don't catch a subscribed thread and i don't get the reply because it disappeared @ the bottom?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i know where the bug with the non-viewed-but-viewed threads is...

if there is a thread with no replies after the "limit time" (meaning the time that goes by until the thread is unmarked as recently answered, 13 days i think) and someone sees it, it will appear in the SPY as viewed by you, even though it hasn't been viewed...

would be that both viewed threads and old threads are identified with the same variable?

HIV/AIDS - this is not a 'gay' disease, was not started in the gay community, is not god's punishment for anything. Of the worlds populations that have HIV/AIDS, 80% is transmitted through heterosexual contact.

I guess someone needs to learn to read...

If you would have read the whole thing, you would have noticed this point was already discussed...

gayness is not a choice - if it were a choice why would all those Republicans keep getting caught in bathrooms and those preachers keep getting outed??

wtf??

I can understand persons who do not like gays but wtf! Hating gays!? This is beyond the ability of this Montana country boy to understand. Hating everything about them is beyond the ken. You don't like their music? You don't like their books? you don't like their art? you don't like ???

God created mankind (your words) he created gays, he created blacks, he created everything including your hate so I guess it is alright for you to hate. do you take your hate to the streets? do you endorse the beating of gays? do you endorse that creepy guy who goes to military funerals and shouts that the soldier died because god hates gays? What does your hate do for you? What does your hate do for the world?

That creepy reverend was going to come here to Seattle to scream and spout his hate at a funeral and folks got together and a held a hate-a-thon for the Rainbow …

Nichito

nichito is the spanish diminutive for my real nickname (it was already taken :(), which is Niche, which means the same as the 'N' word, which is a hyperbole describing the color of my skin, which is a deep tanned color...

actually, there's more people that know me as "Niche" than people that know me for my real name...

i designed some images to put in the navbar... the idea was putting them so that when they're hovered, there is an image change to another image with bthe same design but different colors...

when i pretended to do this i found a serious problem... if i insert the image in the html, there's no way i can change it unless i use javascript (and i'm trying to avoid the excess of javascript)... if i put it as a table background, specifying the cell's width and height, nothing happens, it doesn't even place the image... if i use it as a hyperlink background, the image will be resized to the space needed by the text in the hyperlink...

so, as you can see, i'm in a bit of a problem... i hope you get the idea of what i want to do...

anyone knows how to solve it?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well... i think it should work by specifying the a:hover as anither class in the #links id... like this:

#links a
{
   code
}

#links a:hover
{
   code
}
Pim commented: Helpful, it worked. +3
ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i like the color changing hovers

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i think it's time to give this thread a little bump... to bring some interesting discussions with new members of the community... hehe

somewhere back in the thread i read a comment saying something like this...

if God created human beings, then he should hate himself for creating gays, as they have a design flaw He himself did

or something like that...

ok... according to catholic teachings, God did create mankind at his image... but He also gave mankind something called "free will" so we do whatever we feel like doing... He did not make that flaw in human design... mankind took the wrong way in that aspect...

NOTE: i clearly stated "according to catholic teachings" so don't come up over me telling me i'm an idiot or anything... (it has happened a lot in this thread with a lot of other people)

if you want to do what dani suggested, all you have to do is open a .txt file and save it as filename.html and then upload it to a ftp server

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

or, you can design an algorithm to draw it for you... consisting in a series of nested loops...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

dude... take a chill pill...

first of all, not because you're a programmer it means you don't need help... that's what this community is for...

second, i did read, but got stuck when i got to the code... you could use a little indenting... like this:

<div id="menu">
<ul id="primary-navigation">

since you're not a programmer, you can't tell how hard it is to read a disordered code...

btw... fyi, it looks pretty in my html editor...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well, that's a good point... actually it doesn't bother me... just thinking in a solution...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

no programmer in his sane mind would try to read your html code... you should try writing it a little bit nicer...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

what about making the coffee house dropdown menu extend to the left instead of to the right?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i use it all the time... :D

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

shut up josh!!

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i hadn't noticed, but the dropdown menus highlight which forum you're in... AWESOME!!

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you're welcome... and, please, mark your thread as solved...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

still... i'm looking forward to the dropdown in dropdown menu

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

its pretty nice... its more readable, and more practical... GOD BLESS THE QUEEN!!

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

um... josh... your opinion isn't even as valuable as the opinion of a member 2 minutes old...

you're soo overrated...

joshSCH commented: I'll f***ing kill you!! just kidin ;-) +12
ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

this is just my opinion... but, have you thought on removing the division between the buttons in the first navigation menu? i mean, the active tab is in a different color, but, when you hover a button next to it, there is a division between both buttons...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

hey... that guy needed some moral support...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

careful!!! speeding mouse ahead...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you should try this... it is a very good book... i myself learned web designed with it...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

good luck

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

there's a pseudo-class in cs called :hover try this:

#image img
{
   background-image:url(image1.gif)
}

#image img:hover
{
   background-image:url(image2.gif)
}
...
<div id="image">
<img>&nbsp;</img>
</div>
ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

do you know css?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

what is your problem?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

though, i would say, you should remove the lines between the first menu and the second menu... in my opinion id would look more sophisticated...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

look at myself... i've got 1332 posts and i'm a reckless abandon...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well, i see its going in a good way... lets see the final product...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

everything would be much easier if we had some reference of the file... some code besides the one you posted and the side files such as the image and the css (if any)...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i'm checking on your page, and it seems to be aok... unless those are not the results you want... did you manage to solve your problem?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

just one more detail...

the down side of programming (in any language you choose, even flash)is that it can sometimes be a pain in the ***... specially if things don't come out the way they should (or you think they should)... don't ever give up on that... try everything you think could solve your problem, or, you can come and look for us... that's what we're here for...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

did you specify the <!DOCTYPE> ?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

or try inserting a &nbsp; in between the <td id="id"></td> or the <div></div> tags

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

try putting the id not in a <div></div> but in the <td></td>
