ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

how the hell do i do that? AFAIK there's no way unless you want to set you mobo on fire...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

why didn't you say that in the first post

because i wanted an objective point of view...:P i missed the shot, but i wanted to see if i could score in the replay... *sigh* guess it didn't...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

may we see some part of your code?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

ok... suppose img stands for the graph, n for the record in the databesa (for the image and the rank), and rank for the rank...

it would go something like this:

#pagerank
{
   font-family:verdana; //just an example
   font-color:#aaa;
   font-size: 13px;
}

#pagerank .left
{
   text-align:left;
}

#pagerank .right
{
   text-align:right;
}
<table id="pagerank">
   <tr>
      <td class="left"><img src="img(n).gif"></td>
      <td class="right">rank(n)</td>
   </tr>
   <tr>
      <td class="left"><img src="img(n).gif"></td>
      <td class="right">rank(n)</td>
   </tr>
</table>

remember img , n and rank are all variables and you have to substiturte them for the programming you're using...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

actually i did... i just wanted to see if i could push it over the edge a little bit more...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you can even insert a table inside the div, to keep the format you have... don't be afraid to build a site based on tables... as i always say... combine tables and css, and you'll have a highly powerfull tool...

i have a Toshiba Satellite M20 running an Intel Pentium M @ 1.3GHz in an Intel 855GM chipset @ 400MHz, is there a way to know the maximum ram compatibility?

sorry... i'm not very experienced in hardware...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

do you have a backup? maybe you could turn back to a restore point and start again with the sliding menus and see where it went the wrong way...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

shouldn't the dropdown menu be designed in javascript?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i think the best way to learn flash is downloading a good e-book... i guess, since you have plenty of time, you can manage to find a good one...

maybe you can come back when you've finished with your version of urban rivals so we can test it...

i guess if you manage to design nice flash movies @ 12, you will be able to do great things when you're grown up... good luck with that...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you should try working with tables...

create a two column table, align your left column to the left and your right column to the right... you could even align your table to the center of the "links by pagerank" section...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

heh

Question: where do threads go when they die? Is there a thread heaven ?

this thread is an example they don't die... apparently they stay in a state of limbo or something...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

Close the thread?! You must be crazy! It's healthy for new peps to come around and revive this thread every once in a while..

well, you know how good are newbies to revive long dead threads...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

hey!! since when are you a mod? congrats!!!

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

would some moderator just close this thread? maybe that way somebody else doesn't come and restarts the war in here... :D

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

probably...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

god didn't create evil... He created free will, each one decides what to do... and He decided to punish the wrong use of free will, what became to be known as evil

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

Really there is no proper mention of heaven being an actual place until well after the first sin.

heaven=garden of eden (in a sort of way)

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well... because haven is a punishment for adam and eve's mistake... there wasn't intended to be an intermediary...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

yeah... that's the best solution, i guess... i'll check my ram's compatibility...

now, why is it not recommendable changing its motherboard?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i have this really old laptop, a toshiba satellite M20, which has become obsolete over the years... it's got 223 ram, 30gig HDD, centrino... so i was thinking in upgrading the pc's motherboard, processor and ram... is that possible? and if it is, is it adviceable?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

glad to help

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

well, i guess you could write some code in perl to do that... have you tried the perl forum? maybe they can be more helpful...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

let me see if i got it right... your problem is all of the site's pages show the same meta title... right?

wouldn't this problem be solved if you change the meta content in each page's code?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i like your opinion about tables... actually i rather code my pages based in tables than messing around with positioning

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

identifies all the browser and computer specs... take a look

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you can use it the other way around.. write your own code and check it out in the design view...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i found this nice software called browserhawk, to check system specs... though is far too expensive, so... does anyone know any other software to do this?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

after all, Internet Explorer won the "browser wars" of the 90's, and has proved itself as the world's most popular web browser year after year since.

i wouldn't give that for granted, since mozilla is on the rise and it has more users day after day...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

On what type of system I want...
Just ask Dani what her computer is. I'll take that.

rofl

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i guess the first mistake are the missing code tags

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

yay!!! i like it here... always upgrading...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

agreed with WaltP

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you should try using tables instead of iframes, since they're easier to handle...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

try dreamweaver... it's pretty nice, since you can preview wha you're writing in the same application or in your localhost...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

actually, i'm going through the same issue...

sbv's solution is pretty attractive... though, you must write compatible html codes with every css, so they're compatible to each one of them...

besides, what if i'm using for example, Safari 2, and there's no css code for my browser? or if i'm using an uncommon browser like Opera?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

:D thanks

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

creating your own code is a great thing... though you should want to use a tool like EditPlus, since it (at least) highlights code and stuff, it's pretty useful...

you should take a look to the book i recommended... it's a really good book... and not a heavy reading... i read it myself, and i truly recommend it... specially if you write your own code...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i don't know, but, the higher the number of cores, the higher the performance...

try playing Crysis in a computer with the specs i wrote... it must be heaven!!!

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

what about keeping in your database info about the element's size? that way you can load the info from the database and no more problems...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

that would save users many useless clicks...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

have you ever tried on creating a dropdown menu inside the dropdown menu?

for example, the web development menu has a dropdown menu in which web design is a category which has three subcategories... have you tried displaying these three subcategories in an extra dropdown?

Ancient Dragon commented: excellent suggestion +23

somewhere i read to install joomla i must install it in apache's directory htdocs... but i installed the php5, apache, mysql pack with easyphp... and it doesn't have any htdocs folder... where do i install it then?

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

quad core processor running @ 4.0 GHz (intel builds them specifically for gaming)

2Gb SLI graphics card (2 running @ 1Gb each) i think nvidia's got some of those...

8Gb RAM

blu-ray rom

windows XP (Vista is too crappy for gaming)

4Tb hard drive (so you can store as many games as you want)

bluetooth wireless adapter, to increase your gaming experience...

and loads of money to buy all of that...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

Nest two block objects (e.g. div), one with the defined size, and the other with the surrounding styles. That way, you can control which one is inside in an browser-independent way.

what i did is what DangerDev suggested... creating an id to text-align:center and assigning it to a div... though, if i remove the padding-left from the nav_bar id, when i open it in FF it doesn't align it to the center...

the rest of the styles are in the nav_bar id and they work perfectly... except for the image change on hover in IE7's case...

It's what the browser does when it doesn't recognize a specific doctype. Usually it reverts to emulating an early version of the browser (e.g. Netscape 5).

i never learned using doctypes... i'll give it a look...

Obvious from your avatar.

>_<

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you could find some basic instruction in css here, though i prefer a good book...

combine tables and css and you should have a powerful tool even if you like WYSIWYG editors, or you don't write your own code often...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

i don't think it is an incorrect policy... though it causes more chances to have something wrong... those small mistakes than are a pain in the *** and you don't know how to get rid of them...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

you should consider switching from frames to tables... are much more efficient and appealing...

ndeniche 402 Posting Virtuoso Featured Poster

it solved my alignment problem... but what about my hovering buttons issue?

thanks, by the way...
