Found out what it was. it was some changes I made in the config of Firefox. The loading and cache was messing everything up.
I've seen this a couple of times before. Once I was able to fix the problem by removing "width=100%" from a lot of the tables and td tags the user had. The other time, this didn't fix the problem.
I could try that. Taking out all table attributes hard coded and do it via css. Will give that a try.
Thats what I am hearing so far. For every 5 firefox users, it seems 2 it has this issue and 3 it doesn't. I am on firefox 1.0 as well and it happens every time I load the site fresh with a clear cache. Then I refresh and everything loads ok.
Please check this link:
For some reason on Firefox sometimes the background images of the tables do not load. Upon refresh they will be there. My backgrounds are loaded via css in a seperate file. I have tested both the code and the css at w3 and both are valid. So why is this happening and how can I fix it?
Here is a sshot of what it looks like when it doesn't load right.

If I hard code the background = into the table it loads fine. But then the code would not be valid. But if I cannot get the css to load this correctly in all browsers, I may have to go that route.
Thanks for looking.
You can turn any design or template into an oscommerce template/theme.
What that template is, is a html template. It also comes with the psd files to alter the design to make it more for your site. To make it into an oscommerce theme you would simply use the header and footer of the html template and put it into the header/footer of oscommerce. Then go through the content area and edit the look with the new look.
Oh I see. Thats gonna be tough to get someone to design and code an oscommerce template for 30 bucks. =( Perhaps buy a normal html template like at the site above and then ask someone to make it into an oscommerce template? It might be easier that way.
Either way, good luck!

30 bucks and up templates for the adult industry.
Personally I would turn off the ability for lurkers to see the pictures, etc. Why would they register if they are getting everything anyways? Instead the non members should be allowed to see thread titles, etc. But when they click in, instead of the pictures they should get a message that they are not members and only members have access to the pictures and more.
Give them a reason to sign up. That to me is the problem right now.
No there is nothing. I dont have Norton. Like I said, its both firefox and opera. I even have pop up blocking off.
Using Opera right now and it too shows blank for the ads at the top. I must admit the empty blankness is annoying me. Is there any way to have the ads show? I know, sounds like a dumb request.
Worked like a charm this time. Thanks.
Hey Dani. I tried to edit a blog I posted and it just opened a blank page with, <html><body></body></html>.
Just thought I'd let ya know.
I have been getting called to a lot of houses where this has happened. They installed SP2 and the inet connection was lost. There was no spyware, etc. The end result was I uninstalled SP2 and it came back fine.
Make sure the jumpers are set correctly.
You are lucky that every software company you dealt with had a replacement program. The cd in question I broke did not. I even contacted support to ask how I could go about getting a new cd. There answer was to buy a new one.
Most people who have these games download and install the no cd patches even when they do have the cd. This way they never have to go back and forth to the cdrom. They just run the game. IMO, these people are doing nothing wrong. And if someones ego grows because people find a use for his file, so be it. Not all patches or cracks are illegal and/or "wrong".
cracks should NEVER be used. Their use not only voids your license, they also openly show your support for software piracy.
Nope. I bought a game and 2 weeks later I sat on the cd and broke it in half. To then play I had no choice but to buy a new game just for the dumb cd, or get a cd crack off the web. My getting the cd crack in NO WAY supported piracy. It supported one thing, me playing a game I paid for.

If you are looking for custom work let me know. Many places offer custom skins for any software, me included. ;)
I agree with the "one time post place". People would go there say before a trip there, and after a trip there. But beyond that why would they want to talk about vegas on a daily basis?
In my opinion, its a tough sell. UNLESS you go towards vegas people. People who live there, etc. Then just add another section for travelers there.
It's not an opinion. It is a fact. The W3 says clearly:
"Tables should not be used purely as a means to layout document content as this may present problems when rendering to non-visual media. Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally to view a table designed on a system with a larger display. To minimize these problems, authors should use style sheets to control layout rather than tables."
Key word: "may present problems" . It doesn't always and won't always. So saying no matter what it shouldn't be used for this is nonsense.
And here, "Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally to view a table designed on a system with a larger display." Once again, "MAY". This part can simply be stopped via testing by the coder/designer. And once again, won't always happen. Testing comes into play here.
Just to quickly say though, I do not dislike css and do not think that tables are "better" (I actually use both since my designs are so graphic intensive, tables and css for the table and cell attributes), but to say they should not be used for something as simple as rounded corners is crazy. Not everyone in the world is worried about 100% pristine/perfect code in the eyes of W3. Especially for something so small.
I disagree. Its yet another matter of opinion. Its not a good thing to portray an opinion on coding as fact.
2. How did you get the ads to run down the right hand side of the forum like that?
You can simply insert your content area inside a table with two cells. One holding the content and one on the right with the ads or whatever it is you want to appear on the right side. Put the start in the header and the closing part in the footer.
If you want to be more specific and just add it to certain areas you will need to edit this table into certain templates relevent to the area you want it to appear.
If you need a walkthrough I can throw up a quick tutorial for you.
Not sure what blank area under the header you're referring to. We do have a banner advertisement at the top, which you won't see if you're behind a proxy or using an ad blocker.[/url] :)
Yep thats the area. I am using Firefox and the top right ad is just a blank square. I have no proxy and no ad blocker besides the built in popup blocker in firefox. :?:
ah. Makes a lot more sense now. ;)
Since I got you here, one more question; what is the blank upper right area for under the header?
Looking further, they even have a dating subgroup.
Good article. My opinion lies in the "depends" category too. To me as a web designer, it all depends on the context of the site, and the target audience.
Makes perfect sense to me. Besides, if someone is brand new they don't even know anyone to message. lol
Nice forum. I am new here but have a quick question on the design of the forum/site.
The top and bottom have a thick bar of purple for navigation. I find this actually messes the pages flow up, almost confusing the eye to a start and stop. Why not introduce more purple to the forums to better keep a flow? The forum itself has no purple anywhere. It is all blue.
Hope this is the kind of feedback the staff here is looking for and this does not offend anyone. :)
Just put a corner piece in each of the 4 corners and leave the remaining table space with a background color that matches the color of the corners.
When cutting up a desin you should always leave potential content areas empty, as in no images unless the image is a background image. ie used in a table, or cell just to fill the area.
For more help, post an image or the coded page of your design and show us where you need to add content. Its hard to help without seeing what we are dealing with.
my opinion: templatemonster.com
Lots and lots of templates at decent costs. Grab one there that somewhat resembles what you want and then edit the rest from there since you get both the photoshop files and anything else.
I say go for it.
My take
- It clutters the interface and distracts from the most important thing - the content
That depends on what it is. Make strict rules on what the sig can and cannot be and a uniform look can still be achieved.
- Long loading times of threads. Especially when someone with an image in their sig posts multiple times in the forum
This is not really true. If an image is loaded once it does not get loaded again no matter how many times its on the page. After all, it is just one file regardless of how many times its shown. However, the load time can be an issue if the users servers are slow like many free hosting servers.
- From a marketing perspective, glancing at a page with images in the signature portrays a much less professional atmosphere, which can be detrimental to some prospective members but most importantly when trying to land corporate clients as advertisers
Once again, moderating what sigs can and cannot be comes into play here.
- So many website owners use banners (even 468x60 which isn't HUGE) and link them to their website as their signature ... therefore getting free banner advertising on DaniWeb ... so no one will buy and we won't make any $
Simply make a rule that they cannot do such things. No outside links. Besides that, they can still advertise in their sigs now with text links. Once again, its about rules.
